Kanchana Moitra on her 'controversial' role in Guhamanab

Actress Kanchana Moitra, who came into spotlight after working in flicks like Bye Bye Bangkok, Kayekti Meyer Golpo and Accident, is gearing up to essay a controversial role in Paramita Munshi's next Guhamanab’.

The film is based on award winning author Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay’s novel by the same name.

Speaking about her role in the film, the pretty lady uttered, “All of those who had read it know that the content of the book has been debated upon. The subject is a bit complex. You know, we women dream about having perfect men in our lives. Unfortunately, we do not come across any such dream persons in our lifetime. Till our last breath we hope that we will come across our dream man. It often happens that we start considering someone as our dream guy, but at the end of the day things do not match.”

She continued, “In the movie my character gets married to an IPS officer (played by Neel Mukherjee). Apparently, to the outsiders the family appears to be a happy one. But somewhere the x-factor was missing. Until this, it was a very common story, which happens with many a girls. It becomes extraordinary when the girl finds her dream man in her father-in-law (played by Chiranjeet Chatterjee). The movie revolves around the girl, how drastic she can become in such a situation,  how she accepts her father-in-law and how she handles such a situation.”

The actress shared that she was not supposed to play the role initially. However, at the very last moment she was asked to take up the challenge as according to the makers she perfectly fits in the role.

How are you preparing for the role? She replied, “I always try to focus on the body language and acting instead of focusing on the hairstyle or costume before doing any role. This helps me to get under the skin of the character. Mentally, I start preparing for the role much earlier. I have already started hallucinating about Pinky, I mean I have already started thinking that I am Pinky. This helps me a lot in my work.”

Readers have already sketched the role of Pinky in their own imagination. So, are you worried how they would react to your performance, “I consider myself to be fearless and daring. As it is imperative that in a third world country like ours, all who leave other career options and choose to act in Tollywood are bold and courageous.”

“While essaying a character my first objective always remains to satisfy my director with my work. And my second object is to justify myself. I am a bit tensed, but not worried. I hope that my tension would reduce once I am able to do the work properly,” she added.

When quizzed what kind of roles satisfy her more, the actress humorously answered, “The directors and producers look back upon Kanchana when they do not find some one else to play the characters."

She signed off by saying, "Well.....I always get attracted to play complex characters. Though personally I am a simple woman, but the complex emotions of our lives attract me. Thus I enjoy playing such roles!

Produced by TGC Media Works, the film will release this year.
