MUMBAI: Kanika Maheshwari, who was last seen in Star Plus’ Diya Aur Baati Hum as Meenakshi Rathi is now the antagonist in Sony TV’s unconventional drama Kyun Utthe Dil Chodd Ayee.

We got in touch with Kanika to know more about her role and her bonding with the actors. In an exclusive conversation with Tellychakkar.com, Kanika opened up, “I gave a nod to Kyun Utthe Dil Chodd Ayee because it will break my image as Meenakshi from my show Diya Aur Baati Hum. My character was witty, humourous and lively which I played for around 6 years and I wanted to break that image. I play an antagonist in this show and I wanted to play a negative role which is very spiteful. This kind of a role was very important to me. “

Sharing her bond with Gracy Goswami, she shared, “She is a hardworking girl and is trying to learn. I think she is in the right hands and is fun to be around. She is very young. She is only 18 years old so I re-live my younger days.”

Kanika also mentioned how it was difficult to shoot a recent scene which also had actors Avtaar Gill and Geeta Tyagi who are shooting their last. She said, “It is a 1947 story and it was a difficult time. Imagine one day you are told to leave your house the next day. It would be so difficult to not know where one would stay and where would they eat! So going back to that time was about getting out mixed emotions. One would be angry, sad, would want to cry, would be scared…so many things. It was a difficult scene to enact.

Avtaar Gill and Geeta Tyagi are brilliant artists. I will miss Avtaar ji as he was a well-read man and we bonded on poems. So it was very nice. Today’s young generation do not know much about poems so it was nice to know him. With Geeta Tyagi, it was more about motherhood bonding as she too has kids and I have a 6-year-old so we used to talk about our challenges and being a working mother. “

Well said Kanika! (Also Read: Something serious brewing on the sets of Kundali Bhagya; here's a glimpse)
