In Mangal Lakshmi, Deepika Singh plays the role of a loving mother, a supportive wife, and an ideal daughter-in-law. In real-life too, Deepika balances motherhood, career and her professional dance. Recently the actress had a freak eye injury that got her alarmed. She said, “Something hit my eye during the shoot. I did not pay heed but during a close shot my co-star saw it and when I looked at it, I realised the clot in the eye was pretty big. I went to the doctor, he said it will heal in a few days. I had to take precautions. I avoided the use of eye makeup as much as possible and the show must go on. The shoot cannot get affected. The doctor had prescribed me two eye drops and asked me to use it 3/4 times a day.”

She further explained, “I couldn’t take a break from the shoot because we were shooting a major track of Lakshmi’s wedding and being a main character I was required in every scene. It was not possible to not exclude me from the scenes. I couldn’t have asked for leaves when I can see I’m part of almost all scenes. It was really sweet of the makers who made sure that I was given late call timing and a breather between the scenes.”

Revealing how the incident has taught her to value life. She said, “I gave rest to my eyes whenever it was possible. When I’m not in front of the camera I keep my eyes closed whenever I am not facing the camera. Unless and until it is not very important, I am not opening my eyes or exerting them. This injury was a God’s signal that I should connect to myself because I meditate. After this injury I started doing a lot of breathing exercises and spending time with myself. I feel life mein jab bhi koi pareshaani aati hai Na it teaches you a lesson and brings a change in you. I feel this eye infection gave me a message to introspect.”

She further added, “So now when I’m not in a shot I keep my eyes shut and do my rehearsals also by keeping my eyes closed. I’m not using too much phone, surfing the internet or watching reels. In fact, I stopped talking to my son over video call and instead was speaking to him over voice call. I completely avoided screen time. I took a break from watching my shows or television completely.”

Mangal Lakshmi airs on Colors.
