Mehul Nisar 'excited' as he completes 18 years as an actor

Mehul Nisar

The ever-smiling Mehul Nisar is a workaholic, and has been going strong in the acting sphere over the last 18 years. The actor who came to the limelight with Hip Hip Hurray years back, has had a satisfying journey as an actor, and believes that he gets paid to do what he loves the most, and that is acting...

Presently, Mehul portrays the eldest son, Ghyaan in the dysfunctional family in Life OK’s super-successful Bahu Humari Rajni_Kant. Talking about his character in the show, Mehul avers, “Ghyaan is the eldest son of the dysfunctional family. He is a momma’s boy. He follows Bengali values as his mom is a Bengali. His father is a hard core Punjabi. He is married to Maggie who dominates him most of the times. But he has his way to get away from that. He loves films and at times connects the current situation to films.”

For Mehul, Bahu Humari... gets him back to the genre of comedy, after his stint in the drama series Yahaan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli and the youth-centric Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan. “Yes, KYY and YMGGK were of the drama genre. But my characters in those shows did had a comic element. It feels great to be back in the comedy genre. Comedy is my forte. Even Bahu is actually a nice combination of drama and comedy. Like someone rightly said, ‘This show belongs to a new genre, dramedy.”

Mehul is all praise for his producers of Bahu Humari, Sonali Jaffer and Amir Jaffer. “It’s been a great pleasure working with Sonali and Amir Jaffer. Actually they are the true heroes of BHRK. They are the backbones of BHRK. It is their baby and they have really made sure everything is just right on the show, from the casting to the technicians, to the sets, basically everything. They are very approachable and friendly which has made the entire shoot very comfortable for everyone.”

Like everyone who has been part of Bahu, Mehul too feels he’s honoured to be part of such a show. “It feels great that the show has been accepted by the audiences with open arms..! A lot of hard work has been put by everyone. In the recent times this is a very unique concept of a sci-fi rom-com. Of course the robot is what makes BHRK different. Along with that, the creative’s and writers are also putting in a lot of hard work. It’s very difficult to make a person laugh. Comedy is the most difficult genre. After a long day, who doesn’t want to laugh..? The writers are doing a great job. They are very rightly balancing comedy and drama through the eyes of a non judgmental robot.”

On being part of the one big family, Mehul avers, “It may sound very cliché but we have actually become one big family. Surprisingly all of us are like-minded people and we get along with each other very well. We look forward to our lunch as we all eat together.  Just like the happy feel of the show, the equation amongst us is also very happy happywala..! I strongly feel that we are in the process of becoming long lasting thick friends..!”

Talking about the uniqueness of the show, the actor explains, “Every character in the show has been so beautifully written by Sonali and Amir that none of us have a reason to complain. They have made all the characters so lovable and real that audience likes them instantly. And as I mentioned earlier we all get along so well that we are open to suggestions also in the scenes. There is no feeling of insecurity amongst us that the other person will over shadow us. In fact if someone feels that a certain punch from another character would uplift the scene, it is suggested and worked on for the betterment of the scene.  This is one of the best casts I have worked with where the ego levels are zero.”

Mehul is presently enjoying an added onscreen space in the show, as he is putting up a dual role act, that of Nanaji and Ghyaan. “Actually it came as a surprise to me also. Since the beginning of the show Dhyaan(my younger brother) has been referring to Nanaji’s character. We didn’t know that the makers would actually get Nanaji in the flashback scenes. One fine morning I was told that I would also be essaying Nanaji’s character along with Ghyaan. It was a very pleasant surprise for me. I have never tried playing an older character.  I had to work on the dialogue delivery, body language. The makeup and creative team worked on the look. Eventually I feel I have been able to pull it off. I hope the audience likes it..!”

Mehul who is passionate about his comedy roles, will want to experiment doing a thriller in the near future. “Also, I would love to play a cop, a serious one.”

Lastly, on his super equation with Karan V Grover, Mehul states, “Karan and me go back a long way. We know each other for eight years now. We had common friends. And then in Yahaan Main Khar Ghar Kheli, I played his elder brother for three years. When I got to know he is going to be my younger brother again in this show, I was thrilled. We have our comfort zone. We have our weird sense of humour also. Besides being good friends off screen, I really respect him as an actor. He pulls off any scene so convincingly. Just not that, his inputs towards any scene is appreciated by everyone.”

Have a great future, Mehul!!
