Modern songs have become laughingstock: Amit Kumar

Ace playback singer Amit Kumar says that modern songs have become laughingstock to many. “I have been in this field for probably more than 50 years and I have seen a lot. I have seen the best as well as the worst,” the singer said at a press meet when he was asked to share his opinion on modern songs. He continued, “In those days the songs touched our souls and left good impact. I think it’s irrelevant speaking here about the era when we or our predecessors were singing. Pardon my language, but I feel what is happening in the name of music now has become a laughingstock to many. We need to identify what is lacking now. However, I am not much hopeful; neither do I feel that the situation will improve in the near future.” Speaking about the solution to this issue, he opined, “It's very simple. There is a saying, simple living and high thinking. Previously this was in practice. Unfortunately, now, this no longer exists. The situation has become dicey. Let's all pray to the All mighty, for the situation to improve. Yeah, there are a few artists who could do it, but they are also keeping it to themselves and not taking the lead, include me amongst them.” “You cannot refer to a single tune and say, wah kya baat hai, kya baat hai (what a superbly composed tune). Now, this has become a mockery of the situation. I am sorry to say that,” he added. Kumar, who is the son of the legendary singer Kishore Kumar, is gearing up to croon in Aakash Aath’s musical show Hrid Majhaare and says he is quite excited about the same. “I quite like the name of this show, Hrid Majhare, that is, Hridayer majhkhane (from the core of the heart). I found it quite interesting and thus decided to come after being invited. It's kind of a talk show with some anecdotes. I would respond to the queries from Tanmay babu,” he said with a smile. He further added, “I have always been very honest and have spoken from my heart while giving interviews. I am really excited about what I would be asked in the interview. I have often been told by many that, I never think twice before speaking out the truth. But I have always maintained that it is important to share what is true.” The singer signed off by saying, “I had decided to come here because probably there will be no censorship in this show. I can happily share the truth.” Hosted by world famous tabla maestro Pt. Tanmoy Bose, the episode will be aired tomorrow.
