MUMBAI: Balaji Telefilms has offered numerous shows on all the channels. Be it the iconic shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii or currently trending shows like Barsatein – Mausam Pyaar Ka and Yeh Hai Chahatein.
Audiences are always hopeful with Balaji Telefilms’ shows and the viewers witness great chemistry in all the shows coming from the production house. The graph has surely been amazing and we have seen some great stories that have worked for a long time.
While there are a lot of shows that went off-air lately, there are also shows that have been running for a long time. While the audience has different opinions regarding the on-screen couples, the story, and the execution, there is something important we have noticed when it comes to the TRP ratings of the show, specifically in the case of the Bhagya series i.e. Kumkum Bhagya, Kundali Bhagya, and Bhagya Lakshmi.
Be it in the case of Kumkum Bhagya, Kundali Bhagya, or Bhagya Lakshmi, the on-screen couples - Ranbir – Prachi, Karan – Preeta, or Rishi – Lakshmi, all have a huge fan base and the audience loves them so much that every time a new plot is introduced, affecting the couples, the audience always gives a quick response to it.

This response from the audience gets converted into TRPs. Taking into account, a year of ratings and reviews, here’s something amazing that we’ve observed – The love of the audience towards the on-screen couples is so strong that every time, according to the storyline, the couples are about to come closer to each other, the ratings rise.
However, the opposite happens when the storyline starts to push the lovebirds apart. Now going deeper into the observation where grey-shade characters play an important role, this is where it gets a little tricky. The audience's opinion splits into two where one side favors the couples while the other side sympathizes with the grey shade, which means that there is a part of the audience that loves the grey-shade characters so much that for once they want to see them happy too.
According to the storyline, if the grey-shade character gets the opportunity to unite with his/her loved one, that happiness in the audience’s hearts is reflected in the ratings but since it breaks apart the couple, the disappointment is also reflected.
Going into the deeper side, here’s something that works like a band aid – an alternative couple, for eg. Shalu and Ayush from Bhagya Lakshmi. This is where the story works wonders as they focus on the second couple, distracting them from the struggles going on for the first couple and giving them the feel-good effect.
All-in-all, we can say that the writers are doing a fab job by knowing the nerves of the audiences and delivering them exactly what’s needed, with patience and smooth flow.
