MUMBAI: Being a casting director requires a lot of talent, hard work, and dedication.

Every day, there are billions of people coming to the city of dreams Mumbai to make the best of their careers in the entertainment business. While most of them want to pursue acting, others choose an alternate profession—casting for projects. (Read here: I am known for emergency casting in crisis situations: Aadarsh Jain )

TellyChakkar.com got in touch with Abhishek Gupta. He is a known name in the industry and has been associated with the same for around 8 years. Have a look at the interview:

Tell us about your journey in the industry?

I was merely 20 years of age when I landed in Mumbai with many dreams and a hope to fulfill them. It has been eight years that I’m working here in Mumbai as a casting director. The journey was a roller coaster ride. It was difficult for me as I had no god-father here and I was all alone. I stayed along with a few people initially. My friend Naina introduced me to Prashant ji and that’s when I started my journey from Savdhaan India. After that I started doing shows independently. Tera Baap Mera Baap, Ye hai Aashiqui, Police Factory, Crime Patrol, Emotional Atyachaar, Ishq Kills, Vish , Yeh Teri Galliyaan, Dwarakadhish, Singhasan Battisi, Service Wali Bahu, Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi and  I also did A Marathi Show Vitthu Mauli and a web series. The journey until now has been fulfilling.

Tell us about the struggle in initial days.

People often think that I’ve always had a great life and didn’t struggle, however, that’s not true. I have had my share of struggle. I remember not having money to commute from the production office to my house. I can never forget that night when I was stuck in heavy rains in Mumbai. It was late in the night and I was exhausted and penny less. I sat near a bus stop and didn’t realize when I dozed off. I got up the next morning and found out that I slept there the entire night. So, I’ve spent days like those too. Now, when I recall that incident, I feel that’s what has made me strong and a self-reliant person. The graph has been good and I’m thankful to the god. I would, hereby, also give out a message to the strugglers that there will be tough times and the best thing about them is that they’ll pass, leaving you strong, so don’t be disheartened with the struggle.

From where did you drive inspiration and support?

I come from a family of doctors and engineers. I thought my parents would not understand or support me but to my surprise, they did. From the very beginning of my journey, they’ve been quite supportive.

What is your future goal?

Probably everyone who knows me, are aware of my future goal. I want to open my own production house and I want to direct a movie or show as a director.

We wish Abhishek all the best for his future endeavors.

Stay tuned to this space for more updates.
