My mother, my friend - a Mother's Day story

Mother's Day
A father may turn his back on his child, brothers and sisters may become inveterate enemies, husbands may desert their wives, wives their husbands. But a mother's love endures through all.- Washington Irving The amazing lady who had nurtured you for nine months in her womb and had endured the immense physical pain of giving birth to you, will always be there for you throughout your life no matter what happens. Yes- she is your one and only mother and your friend forever. In the current times, a mother is more of like a buddy than an over-strict parent with whom you seem to have a barrier with as far as open communication with her is concerned. The generation gap between the generations is decreasing. For Mother’s Day, we interviewed some of your favourite TV actors whose mothers are like their pals and can share even the deepest and darkest secrets of their hearts with their mothers. Kinshuk Mahajan who was in shows like Sapna Babul Ka...Bidaai, Chand Chupa Badal Mein and Afsar Bitiya shares everything about his life with his mother Poonam Mahajan. Though she lives in Delhi whereas Kinshuk lives in Mumbai, they communicate daily on phone. “When I started seeing my wife Divya, my mom was the first person to know about it.” The actor recalls that she was always a protective mother. “My father was very strict. Whenever I wouldn’t get good marks in school, she would go to lengths to safeguard me from my father’s fury. Once when a teacher had hit me in school, she had complained to the school authorities which had compelled the teacher to apologise. When as a child I had a bad fall and badly bruised myself, she got very vexed and promptly took me to the doctor.” Of course he loves mamma’s food, especially the mutton biriyani she makes. Delnaaz Irani wouldn’t share everything about her life to her mom Roda Irani when she was a minor. Now her mother is her confidant. She admires her mom for being an excellent mentor and for her optimistic outlook. “Even when I have gone through a rough patch she has made me see the brighter side of things.” Delnaz obviously missed her at the Bigg Boss house especially during Diwali and Christmas. She had pledged to her though that she would remain strong what come may. Delnaz recalls that though her mother was a disciplinarian when she was a child she was also very emotional. “My mom would cry even during an emotional scene during a Hindi movie. She is like a coconut, hard on the outside and soft on the inside. At 70, she seems to have the vibrancy of a 17-year-old.” Fahad Ali who plays KD in Channel V’s The Buddy Project discusses both his personal and professional life with his mother Ghazala Parvin. “She has always been a caring mom. She would help me with my studies at home- she was a great teacher. She handles the household very well too- she is a great multi-tasker. She makes excellent rajma chawl. She would write letters to me from Dehra Dun on how to survive in Mumbai, to always abide by the right path and how to take judicious decisions.” Monica Bedi shares a close rapport with her mother Shakuntala Bedi. Going down memory lane she says, “She would create lovely funny and scary stories at bedtime when I was a child.” She really looks up to her mom who purely with the strength of mind has overcome by fifty percent the paralysis that afflicted her in 1995. “I have learnt from her never ever to give up. When she lives in Mumbai with me, she takes meticulous care of me and ensures that my cook prepares healthy and delicious meals for me. When she lives in Norway, I talk to her every second day.” Giaa Maanek who plays Jeannie in Jeannie Aur Juju is seen with her mother Reena Maanek at all places. When she was struggling and giving seven to eight auditions in a day, she would always travel with her. Giaa shares from A to Z about her life and turns to her for wise counsel. “What I admire about my mom is that she has always given me unconditional love. In fact I attribute half of my professional success to her,” says Giaa. Naakul Vaid who has acted in films as well as TV shows like Sony TV’s Challenge and Rihaee admits that his mother pampers him a lot. “My mom Kiran Vaid has sacrificed a lot for me. She gives me very warm and comforting hugs. She is gentle, soft and lady like. She is highly compassionate- for instance even if I have eaten well and she hasn’t eaten for two days, she will serve me a delicious dish I have been pining for instead of eating it. She is an excellent host to my friends. She is ready to travel an extra mile to help others.” “When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child,” said actress Sophia Loren. All the amazing mothers of the actors we interviewed are just like the mothers described by Sophia Loren who will go out of their way to make their kids happy even at the cost of their happiness.
