MUMBAI: Dalljiet Kaur and estranged husband Nikhil Patel’s marriage troubles have been in the headlines lately.
Heartbreak is a wound that takes a long time to heal. In Dalljiet's case, the wound is much deeper because the businessman from Kenya denied their Hindu marriage completely, saying that it was only important culturally and not legally binding. For the unversed, Kaur had accused Patel of having an extramarital affair, following which he released a statement confirming their separation. Reportedly, under the Indian Penal Code, the Information Technology Act of 2000, and The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act of 2012, Dalljiet Kaur’s social media posts accusing her husband of an extramarital affair are legally questionable.
While Nikhil has been quiet all along and Dalljiet has been making statements on social media of all the bitterness that she has gone through, Nikhil has now come out in the open and made a statement to the media.
In a detailed statement, he has addressed the issues that led to his split with Dalljiet and the various allegations that she has put on him.
Nikhil mentioned that he met Dalljiet in Dubai in 2022 and then in 2023 they performed the ceremony according to Hindu rituals and lived as a family until January 2024 post which she returned to India with her son Jaydon. Nikhil also mentioned that Dalljiet was well aware that he wasn’t legally divorced. Nikhil said that his legal team sent a letter to Dalljiet’s parents informing the same and they had no objections from the wedding.
Nikhil also went on to state that their marriage was in no way a legal marriage ceremony and Dalljiet only pretended to be in a legal union probably to support and play the victim card. Once his divorce came through, the duo wanted to legalise their relationship and it is here that he provided her all that she wanted to pursue her YouTube channel and podcasts, but she wanted to write scripts instead. Nikhil mentioned that he has been supportive of Dalljiet’s needs. Finally ending his claim, Nikhil mentioned that Dalljiet was not able to adapt to her non-celebrity status in Kenya.
