Nikhil Sachdeva wins MTV Roadies X1: Ride for Respect

The journey that began with auditions in the last week of January 2014 finally came to a glorious end with contestant Nikhil Sachdeva, proving his mettle to win the coveted title of the ultimate ‘Roadie’ in the eleventh year of the show, MTV Roadies X1: Ride for Respect. Nikhil contested in the finale episode against fellow Roadie contestants and finalists Utkarsh Khanna, Garima Bhateja and Meher Gill. The show hosted by, MTV VJ Rannvijay saw Nikhil battling his way to victory till the very last moment of what could be called the most exciting season of the show till date. Nikhil, who had initially tried out for the position of the Roadie in season ten but had been turned away disappointed due to being unfit for handling the pressures of being a roadie is probably having the last laugh now as he dons the colours of victory. A loss of 28 kgs and brushing up on his Hindi speaking skills led this tattooist from North Delhi to be selected for a chance of a lifetime – to be featured on the eleventh edition of India’s biggest and most popular reality show ever MTV Roadies X1: Ride for Respect. The finale episode of the massively popular show was every bit the nail-biter it promised to be with four finalists watching every move taken by the other in order to get their hands on the prize. As expected, the finale was filled with some interesting twists and turns beginning with Raghu making a reappearance on the show alongside MTV VJ Rannvijay. The next twist came in the form of Raghu forming new teams by pitting boys against the girls and inviting ex-roadies to witness the first task for the episode. A complicated task which involved getting through a barb-wired maze blindfolded left the girls at a disadvantage as they were being guided by someone who sympathized with the boys. Tantrums later, MTV Roadies X1 finally had the two finalists – Nikhil and Utakarsh - who would battle it out to the very end. The final task of this season involved freeing themselves from a moving tractor to retrieve a flag and seven markers from a raft attached at the back of the tractor. With three attempts each, the one to get this task done the fastest would be adjudged the winner. Nikhil first attempt was a disaster, and do was Utkarsh’s. His second attempt however was much better in which he managed to almost complete the task by retrieving six markers. As Utkarsh tried to outdo Nikhil’s feat, failing to get on to the raft itself, ended up making Nikhil the de facto winner and the ultimate ‘Roadie’ of MTV Roadies X1: Ride for Respect.
