Nupur Alankar opens up on maintaining silence for three months post her mother’s death in December, READ

MUMBAI: For actress Nupur Alankar, the lockdown lasted two years. She had been homebound attending to her ailing mother.

After the Punjab and Maharashtra Co-Operative (PMC) Bank collapsed in October 2019, Nupur’s accounts were frozen. Unable to afford treatment for her mother, the Swaragini actress posted the details about her mother’s health complications on a crowdfunding platform in June last year. Luckily, help started pouring in.

However, just when her mother started showing signs of recovery, they suffered a huge setback, following which Nupur's mother passed away on 3rd December 2020 and Nupur confirmed the news on getting contacted. She said, “There was a time when I didn’t even have Rs. 500 to buy her medicine. That’s when I shared her details on a crowdfunding platform and got immediate help. My fraternity came to my rescue during this crisis. I was homebound since December 2019. There was no way I could have resumed work as I had to be by her side throughout.”.

Her mother’s demise was a massive blow to her and she went into a shell.

Calling it a healing process, the actress vowed silence for almost three months. She said, “My mother breathed her last lying in my lap. Uss dauraan maine mehsoos kiya ki helplessness kise kehte hain. I performed her final rites alone, which was her dying wish. I observed silence for three months as I needed time to heal. I wanted to deal with the crisis before I was ready to face the world again and this time without my pillar of strength and support. Secondly, a lot of my relatives turned us away when we were in need of financial help. I have moved on... and am ready to face the harsh truth that the most important chapter of my life is over. My mother taught me how to fight adversities, recover from them and be ready to face the next challenge.”.

Now, Nupur wants to get back to acting and besides her love for it, the driving factor is that she wants to repay her debts. “I will soon get back to work. I want to return all the money that I have borrowed for my mother’s medical aid. Till then, I won’t be at peace.”, she concluded.
