MUMBAI: The entire country is on lockdown at the moment and there have been many cases of the needy not getting food to eat during this time. Actor Rishina Kandhari’s husband Vishal Kandhari and Karishma Modi have come up with Punyakarma, a food distribution initiative for the poor. Talking about the same, she says, “My husband and I have always been inclined towards helping others and have helped many social causes and institutions earlier. When Vishal came up with the idea of opening an organization where we could help people in need, I was very proud. We have taken care of the education of all our staff at home and office and are helping build schools in the interiors of Maharashtra too. We both were devastated by the conditions of the daily wage workers of our area and so we decided to help them with food supplies and groceries. But people started panicking and buying things in bulk and the groceries went out of stock. That is when we decided to turn our studio into a kitchen for the underprivileged. We are feeding three thousand people daily. At the end of the day, when we come back home, I feel satisfied blessed and proud.”
The actor says that everyone must do their bit during this time. “It’s very important for everyone to unite and help others. No one person can pull the chariot for long on his own. We as celebrities have a boon of taking things one notch higher as the people understand the importance of the social cause done when they hear from their favourite celebs,” he says.
Meanwhile, Rishina has been managing two houses, hers and her parents. “As I don’t have a 24/7 house help, I’m managing the cooking, cleaning at my house and even at my parents as we live in the same building. Apart from that, I also go for food packing at the studio,” he says.
She adds, “I’ve been officially labelled as a superwoman by my friends and family as the thing I do on a daily basis no normal person can do. It does get tiring by the time I finish my daily chores but I do keep up my energy levels up by taking proper nutrients. Time management is the key to my schedule. Managing home, managing work, managing social work, and keeping up with a healthy lifestyle is all about that. My husband calls me Saravagun Sampann.”
