Salim Diwan - Sonu is a very kind person, loving, positive, and always ready to help in every possible way

MUMBAI: Actor Salim Diwan, whose short film Perfect Scream is streaming on Disney Hotstar, recently met Sonu Sood to join forces with his efforts to help those in need amid this crisis. Calling the actor a messiah, Salim says that it feels wonderful to be able to collaborate with Sonu.

“Sonu and I have been friends for a long time. We used to work out in the same gym around the same time. Sonu is a very kind person, loving, positive and always ready to help in every possible way. He is definitely a messiah, a people’s man in the way he has been helping people in the times of Covid-19. I also wanted to be of some help to him and those who need our support. My best wishes to Sonu Bhai and his foundation. I hope they are able to continue with their noble work towards the betterment of mankind,” he says.

Meanwhile, the actor has adopted 20 children. He looks after them, provides for their education.  “I am just doing my work as a human being. It is the responsibility of each and every person who is capable enough to look after other people apart from their families. If you have more money than you need, you should help others. While growing up my father (Dr. Salaudeen Chopdar) taught us to give, share and take care of people. He used to say when you have enough or more than enough then look up and thank God for everything and then look down to help people. I’ve been following his path. These children are my family. I look after their education and well-being. Hope they also do the same going forward,” he adds.

Salim says every kind of help matters. “It’s not always about money but standing with someone when they need support is also enough. We Indians are helpful and emotional beings. We must not think twice before helping someone. It’s a beautiful feeling to make someone happy,” he says.

Talking about his career, Salim comes from a family of doctors, but he was always interested in acting. “My father was a doctor and my elder brother Sattar Diwan is also a doctor. Our family runs a pharmaceutical business but I opted for this profession because it has been a passion since I was a child. As the youngest child, I was pampered and allowed the time to think about what I want to. My family was supportive of my decision as they understood this is what I want to pursue. I feel grateful to have such good people around me,” adds the actor, who will start his next project soon.

Salim feels Covid has been a great educator. “This crisis is like the speed breaker. We’ve been moving really fast and had no time for family and our own self. We were almost becoming a machine when this pandemic and the lockdown made people realise that it is the health and the family which matters the most. Many of us have lost our near and dear ones in these trying times. I lost my daddy,” he pauses before adding, “But we’ve learnt a lot. It has made us stronger, brought us close to our families, friends, relatives, and neighbours. I would also like to salute frontline workers, policemen, and all the officials who have taken the responsibility of saving billions of lives. These times have made us human again,” he ends.
