Shama Sikander shines as a 'nymphomaniac' in Sexaholic

Shama Sikander

Is love only about emotional fulfilment? Can a woman not have desires that go beyond what her partner can fulfil? If a sexually-charged woman is called a ‘nymphomaniac’, what’s the male equivalent for that?

Well, these are some of the questions that Shailendra Singh’s short film Sexaholic aims to tackle. And it does so too. Shama Sinkander and Vishal Karwal as a married couple, who are in love…but not physically-compatible. Vishal, a high-flying service-man, is unable to satisfy his wife.

Shama, who’s terrific as the good-wife-gone-bad, seeks satisfaction with other men. Haunted by moral dilemma, she confesses her cheating ways to her husband, who drags her to a psychiatrist.

Phew! Such a simple tale, yet it tells us so much about human behaviours, the obvious gender inequality in the society, and more importantly, how a woman’s passion is looked down upon.

The 30-minute-long short movie is a definite eye-opener that makes us take notice of such burning topics. Is it okay for a man to cheat and not a woman? While no partner should cheat when in a committed relationship, a woman shouldn’t be treated any different from her male counterpart.

After all, everybody’s needs are different. Watch the short film to understand the stark contrast that still haunts our ‘progressive’ society.
