The Bollywood directors and producers have been cashing in on the success of South Indian movies for a long time now. But the South fever is not limited to the big screen; in fact even the small screen is bitten by the bug. UTV Television has churned out two dailies that were remake of hit South Indian shows. The pioneer in this league was Maayke Se Bandhi Dor that aired on Star Plus, which was a remake of ‘Kolangal’ a Tamil show that aired on Sun TV; the second being Dil Se Di Dua... Saubhagyavati Bhava, which is a remake of a Telugu serial, Shravanthi. The series is currently on air and is been highly appreciated for its unique storyline and mind blowing performances.
And now the next UTV’s offering is also a remake. Shubh Vivah, which will be aired on Sony Entertainment, revolves around the lives and pains of a father and his five daughters. This show is a remake of award winning Tamil series Metti Oli.
“All the shows that we have remade have been hits down south. We have been lucky that the audiences have accepted them well, because to suit the taste of the Hindi audiences we have to incorporate a few changes in the original,” says Santosh Nair, coo UTV Television.
Shubh Vivah will also mark the comeback of Eijaz Khan, who was last seen doing a cameo in Bhaskar Bharti. The series will have Rakesh Bedi play father to five daughters, played by Neha Narang, Shafaq Naaz, Vinny Arora, Krutika Gaikwad and Neha Janpandit. The promos of the show are currently on air.
