Small screen soaps add Janmashtami twist

Whether it's a Dahi Handi routine or a scene of a procession or a fancy dress competition sequence -- Hindi TV shows are living up the fervour of the Janmashtami festival, which falls on Saturday this year.

Janmashtami is observed as the celebration of lord Krishna's birth.

Several Hindi general entertainment TV channels are celebrating it with a twist in the plot.

Zee TV will have the celebrations organised in their show, “Neeli Chatri Wale”, where there will be a 'Jhaanki' (procession) being decorated and a fancy dress competition organised in which the children will be seen dressing up as Krishna and their parents would dress up as Devki and Yashodha, read a statement.

Colors channel will celebrate 'Dahi Handi', bringing in twists to their shows “Sasural Simar Ka”, “Udann” and “Swaragini - Jodein Rishton Ke Sur” to create drama and mystery.

'Dahi Handi' is dedicated to celebrating Krishna's playful and mischievous side, where teams of young men form human towers to reach a high-hanging pot of butter and break it.

In "Sasural Simar Ka", actress Deepika Kakar, who essays Simar, will be seen climbing the human pyramid for her family's sake, while in "Udann” Chakor (Spandan Chaturvedi), dressed as Chauka, will be hailed as the lucky one being given the opportunity to break the 'kalash' and start the Janmashtami celebrations; and "Swaragini - Jodein Rishton Ke Sur” will see a 'Krishna Puja'.

Meanwhile, BIG MAGIC channel will celebrate Lord Krishna's birthday in its show, "Hazir Jawab Birbal” which will witness a 'Sadhvi' who comes to Akbar'’ empire, claiming to be a devotee of lord Krishna. She asks Akbar to let her stay in her palace for the festivities which will indirectly help Akbar to understand the rituals and with that the vast majority of the people he is ruling.
