Smita Bansal (Sumitra of Balika Vadhu) is back to theatre with the play Get Rid of My Wife, in which she plays the central character. The play is premiering this weekend in Mumbai. Bansal was last seen in a play called Mad About Money. “This is my second play with producer Ashwin Gidwani. It is a comedy play. Nasir Khan plays my husband and he desperately wants to get rid of his wife, that’s me. One day three men who are blind, deaf and dumb kidnap her. Her rich husband is happy to know this while she is happy too. As she feels that she will manage to get all the fame and name which she always desired.” She says she accepted this play out of her love for comedy. “Television is image centric, I have been doing Balika Vadhu for the past two years and I barely got a chance to do a comedy show. I was a bit stressed out doing the same thing, and I could not give time to anything else. But for this play I will only require two days a week, which is not difficult for me. I have already informed my production house about it. I have worked with Paritosh Painter who has written and directed this, so I agreed to be part of it.” This play is the sequel to Painter’s earlier 'See No Evil Hear No Evil Speak No Evil’ and he will act in it too. Says Bansal, “It was a little tough rehearsing this play. In television we have to give close shots, on the other hand in plays when I would give any expression these people used to remind me that I should avoid giving only facial expressions. I had to work on my body language as well and everyone helped me here a lot. Since I shoot in Vasai for Balika Vadhu, they kept all my rehearsals at night and the rehearsals were a great stress buster after a hectic working day as I would often break into giggles.” Get Rid of My Wife also stars Balwinder Singh and Jayesh Thakkar and has its first show at the NCPA. It is also expected to travel to Hong Kong in May.
