MUMBAI: We all have that one song closest to our heart, a song that describes our journey in a nutshell. Actors too have their favourite. They tell us the song that rightly depicts the theme of their lives, and explain why it does:

Apne Liye Jiye To Kya Jiye, Tu Ji Ae Dil, Zamane Ke Liye from Badal (1966) is what I have always believed in. It sort of says a lot about how I prefer living my life till I am alive and kicking on this earth.

Our past teaches us and our future is what we look forward to. But the best time of our lives is the present as we never know if there is at all a tomorrow. Living at the present is what drives me. So my song is Kal Ho Naa Ho (Kal Ho Naa Ho; 2003).

I’ve never thought about it that way before but if I have to choose, I’ll go for Yun Hi Chala Chal from Swadesh (2004) as my theme song for life. You need to continue walking, get up after every fall and start walking again to reach where you want to.

Sometimes life feels incomplete without the right partner. So my song, going by my present state of mind, would be Mere Sapno Ki Rani from Aradhana (1969).

Not one, I actually a few songs that together explains my journey. Allah Ke Bande Hasde Jo Bhi Ho Kal Phir Aayega (Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II; 2003), Aye Zindagi Gale Laga Le Lyrics (Sadma ; 1983) and Kal Ho Naa Ho (Kal Ho Naa Ho; 2003), all these three songs defines different phases of my life so far. Guessing in coming times, a few more might get added to the list.

Zindagi Ek Safar from Andaz (1971) is the theme song for my life so far. Amid all good and bad that we go through, there is so much that we learn from all the smiles and tears that makes for this beautiful tale called life.

For me Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye from Anand (1971) explains everything I feel. At any given point in life, this song makes me realise why this life is worth living the way we want and how we want it.

We all go through our share of struggles. In fact life gives us more reasons to cry than smile, so why not smile all the more and carry on with this journey. Hence, my pick would be Hanste Haste Kat Jaye Raste (Khoon Bhari Maang; 1988).

If you listen to the song Aawara Bhawre Jo Haule Haule Gaye from the film Sapnay (1997) carefully, there’s so much in this AR Rahman’s composition that says a lot about us humans and Nature in a very happy way. This song is closest to my heart and rightly describes my thoughts and journey.

For me life is all about a lot of laughter and also smiling away the tears. And the song that rightly describes how I look at life would be Aaj Main Upar (Khamoshi: The Musical; 1996). I am one person who tries to find the positive in the worst of situations, hence this song.
