Come 11 July, there will be yet another crime show on air, Crime and Punishment, this time on Sahara Samay Rashtriya. Hosted by Shweta Kawatra, the show will only deal with crimes of passion. "The premise of this show is that it will deal with human frailities. Everyone commits mistakes and it is up to the others to learn from these mistakes," says Suhaib Ilyasi. "The USP of the show is that unlike the other major crime based shows, my show will be aired on Monday and Tuesday and it will deal with internationally known crimes that have had an impact on society," points out Suhaib, who has an experienced set of writers and a legal team that helps out with the content, which is monitored by him. Suhaib has already shot 20 episodes of the show. The format of the show is such that one story will be told over two days. A pioneer of the art of reconstruction of facts in a crime based show, will Suhaib resort to the same technique this time too? "The audio-vuisual medium is the best way to send your message across. It attracts the attention of the people immediately. But one has to be true to the content," points out Suhaib, who showed concern over the format being used unnecessarily sometimes. When we ask him about the sting operations and the subsequent legal battle that actor Aman Verma has launched against him - "We all know why he is doing it! But before this we have never been caught in any legal issue," says Suhaib. Talking about the spate of films and television offers that both Aman and Shakti Kapoor have been getting after the sting operations, Suhaib remarks, "Good for them, but people should learn from their mistakes. As part of the society we should start being careful." What prompted him to take on Shweta Kawatra? "She is energetic, and she is also a popular face. She has done a great job!" says Suhaib. Viewers have always been interested in suspense, thriller and investigating content - be it in movies, or in television programmes. This is proved from the fact that serials such as CID and Crime Patrol on Sony Entertainment Television are so popular. Moreover, crime based shows get a lot of eyeballs for the channel as well. Sahara Samay Rashtriya has always been different with its take on crime. It's programme, Chargesheet, has a section on missing people and it also reports about crimes that remain unreported by the administration. Crime and Punishment seems again an endeavour of the channel to be different from the others. Highpoints of Crime and Punishment Crime and Punishment is the first crime show to be hosted by a popular actress. It is the first show that will concentrate on only one form of crime --- that of passion. Although, Channel 7 has created a Crime Band for its crime shows, that deals with different kind of crimes, Suhaib's show exclusively concerns one kind of crime. It's aim is not to catch criminals, but to send out a message to the society that such acts lead nowhere and is not a solution, but a problem.
