MUMBAI : Being successful in your initial acting career can also be a disadvantage because of the extremely high expectations of the audience. It was experienced by Surbhi Jyoti with Qubool Hai's enormous success. She went on to star in Ishqbaaaz and Naagin 3, but nowadays she's looking for parts that push her creatively, which is how she ended up in Gunaah.

“I pick diverse roles to satisfy my urge of doing different things. I chose Gunaah because Tara’s [her character] thought process is so different from what I have played in the past,” she says.
Jyoti plays a grey role in the Disney+ Hotstar revenge thriller, also starring Gashmeer Mahajani and Zayn Ibad Khan. “When the story was narrated to me, I had so many questions. So many times, I’d think my character’s actions were bizarre. But she lost her mother when she was young, her father is not parent material, that is why she has such a personality. I don’t look at it as positive or negative.”
Does she feel the pressure of matching up to Qubool Hai’s success with this project? Not really. She says she now seeks “contentment”. “I started on a high note with Zoya [her Qubool Hai character]. It helped whatever I did after that. People started loving me [because of Zoya], so whatever I did, they’d support me.”
Surbhi began her acting career with her performances in regional theatre and films in 2010. Surbhi rose to fame with her character of Zoya in Qubool Hai, which was her debut serial, and then she was part of shows like Koi Laut Ke Aaya Hai, Tanhaiyan, Ishqbaaaz, etc. Her stint in Naagin 3 was loved by the audience and she became a household name and gained a massive fan following.
Actors Tanmay Nagar, Zayn Ibad Khan, Gashmeer Mahajani, and Surbhi Jyoti play key roles in 'Gunaah.' Disney+Hotstar is currently streaming the show, which is directed by Anil Senior with Anirudh Pathak as the showrunner, ‘Gunaah’ is a tale of survival and retribution.
