It was 125 years ago that the Maharashtrian freedom fighter and reformist Lokmaniya Bal Gangadhar Tilak laid the foundation for Ganeshotsav - as we publicly celebrate it today. What inspired him was the iconic Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati Temple in Pune. It was built by a wealthy migrant sweetmaker from Karnataka Dagduseth Gadve after he lost his son to the plague, according to research by us at TellyChakkar. For devotees of Lord Ganesh, it is a pilgrimage, that they have to make at least once in their lifetime. Just like Tirupatii Balaji is for devotees of Lord Venkteswara aka Balaji or the the Vaishodevi temple is for followers of Maa Vaishno Devi.
Thus it was that TV producer Asit Kumarr Modi and the team of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah visited Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati Temple in Pune to seek blessings from the deity.
Says Asit Kumarr Modi, “We wanted to come here and seek blessings of the lord for our show and our team. We are extremely happy that we came here as it gave us happiness and strength to guide us in the next phase of our journey. As soon as we entered the temple we were charmed by the positive vibes of the place and the kindness of the people around. The city of Pune is beautiful and the people and their hospitality were something that touched our hearts.”
And the visit has been documented in two episodes of Taarak Mehta ka Oolta Chashmah which are to be telecast on 21 and 22 August 2017 on SAB TV. The broad storyline begins when Bhide and Madhavi are talking about the wonderful Independence Day and Dahi Handi events and suddenly in walks Popatlal demanding Rs 501 from Bhide. He is going to Pune to cover the story of Holy Dagusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple completing 125 glorious years.
Madhavi wishes to accompany Popatlal and hence Bhide, Madhavi and Soni join Popatlal. Later on, Tapu, Champakkalal, Goli, Gogi, Sodhi and Anjali also accompany them to seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha.
What happens next?
