MUMBAI: Actress Vaishnavi Ganatra, who is currently seen in Rahul Kumar Tewary’s Jagadhatri on Zee TV, looks back at her bond with television as the world celebrates World Television Day. Known for her expressive performances and warm on-screen energy, Vaishnavi says TV has shaped both her childhood and her journey as an actor.
“I grew up watching Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah with my grandparents and siblings. It was like a little family ritual. We’d sit together and laugh at the jokes while watching. That show was such a big part of my childhood and made television feel like a happy, comforting part of home,” she shares. She adds that the feeling became even more special once her own shows began airing, as her family again gathered to watch her on screen, something that means a lot to her.
Reflecting on how television has changed over the years, Vaishnavi says the medium continues to evolve with fresher, more real stories and the arrival of OTT platforms. “Viewers have so many more choices now, but I still feel television has its own charm. It reaches every home, brings people together and connects in a very personal way. No matter how much things change, TV will always have that special, timeless magic.”
For her, the emotional connect that television creates is still unmatched. “People see you every day, they feel for your character, grow with you and connect with your story. Over time, you actually become a small part of their lives. That bond is what makes television so special, and I don’t think anything can replace that,” she says, adding that even though viewing habits may shift, the core emotions remain the same. “If the story feels honest and the characters are relatable, the audience connects instantly. The love we’ve been getting from the audience proves that.”
Ask her which show she would love to see return, and she instantly names a classic. “If I could bring back one show, it would be Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. It was such a clever and funny show with unforgettable characters. The humour was so natural and relatable that even today people quote its dialogues. We don’t often get that kind of clean, witty family comedy anymore, and I’d love to see something like that back on TV.”
For Vaishnavi, television remains a medium that brings families together, creates lasting memories and continues to hold a place of warmth in her heart, no matter how much the world of entertainment changes.
