Thapki Pyaar Ki actress Smita Singh takes a BIG LEAP in Bollywood!

Smita Singh
MUMBAI: Renowned for her role in Bhagyavidhaata as Punpunwali apart from her stint in shows such a Hitler Didi, Shastri Sisters, Dr. Bhanumati on Duty, and Thapki Pyaar Ki, actress Smita Singh has taken a big leap on the 70-mm screen.

She will be seen in not just one but two Bollywood films: one that stars faces such as Rajkummar Rao and Boman Irani titled Made In China under the banner of Maddock films, and the other one with Jimmy Shergill titled Mathura – The City Of Love.

Smita shared that she had a ball of a time shooting with Boman Irani in Made In China.

She confirmed the news and said, ‘I play Boman Iran's daughter-in-law in the film. I cannot give out too many details, but yes, it has been a wonderful experience shooting with Maddock Films. The film required me to mouth some dialogues in Gujarati and a star like Boman Irani guiding me came as a surprise. Our director is adorable, and I was flabbergasted to see a national award-winning director and stellar personalities being so grounded.’

Shedding some light on her second film, Mathura - The City Of Love, Smita said, ‘Jimmy Shergill plays my brother-in-law in the film. The film revolves around a corrupt family.’

Mathura - The City Of Love will have Smita in a character of an alcoholic daughter-in-law who has lost hopes of improvement of her corrupt family. She follows the family traditions to keep the respect of her family in society.

Smita expressed, ‘They had to put on makeup to give me dark circles, and I was surprised, because being a television actress, you hardly get time off to finish your beauty sleep! But I must say, shooting for these two films has been the best of 18 years of my acting career. I had job satisfaction unlike my stint on TV, where I have become stereotyped. What starts on a different note ends up being the same run-of-the-mill soap. I wish to explore more and hope to have more offers and opportunities coming my way from Bollywood.’

Way to go, Smita!
