Check out the list highlighting on television's vamp mother-in-law's characters...

MUMBAI: Indian television programmes are the major sources of entertainment for most of the Indian households.

Owing to the fact that their plots uphold the theme of righteousness over anything else as the show's driving factor, this factor enhances the norm cultures that are followed by the majority of the Indian families. Due to the match of ideas, national viewers prefer more of such shows. But hey, the fun does not lie there, but rather, in the complications that are stirred into the simple plot by introducing the vamp characters.

Before heading to that part, we must acknowledge the fact that Hindi shows have succeeded in retaining their popularity till date only by introducing modern concepts and lifestyle with a progressive approach as it's driving factor in the storyline and also, by showcasing the eradication of old school and illogical stereotypes and the performance of related rituals.

With that being said, one thing still remains constant in many shows even today, the dominance of the vamp mother-in-law, who controls household functions and tries protecting her son (is majority cases) from self-claimed evil intrutions (by indicating towards her daughter-in-law). They are the characters who elevate the drama-quotient of their shows by adding more unprecedented twists and turns to it. And who doesn't crave for spicy drama in their straight and boring lives?

Show-makers highlight the estranged relationship amid a son's mother and her daughter-in-law, which is the most common realistic phenomena and is a hot-gossip topic for most Indian households. Taking this concept up, many Hindi shows went on and off-screen till date emphasising on this one pattern of relationship and the bitterness it confides amid two individuals of two separate generations.

Without any further ado, let's summarize few of the best and most popular small-screen vamp mother-in-laws who did not just uphold their characteristics on-point, but have added more drama to the already twisted plot, making it twice more enduring for it's viewers:

1. Ramola Sikand in Kahiin Kisi Roz

Ramola was the most popular on-screen vamp mother-in-law of the early '00s, who always used to find out ways to oust her righteous daughter-in-law. What made her more popular over her character was that eye-catching make-up she put up for the role with elongated bindis that almost touched her vermilion mark down her hairline. People loved to hate her on-screen character.

2. Savita in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi

This character was played by actress Apara Mehta, who underwent temporal character diffusion owing to her daughter-in-law Tulsi's goodwill. Before that, she held a firm grudge against the latter for marrying her son without her will and left no chance to pass on a hurdle in latter's struggles.

3. Bansuri Balwant Singh in Ek Veer Ki Ardaas - Veera

Knowing her daughter-in-law since latter's childhood, all Bansuri had for Veera is sheer hatred right from the very beginning, owing to the fact she was the illicit child of the then-sarpanch of their village - Sampooran Singh. She even hated Veera's family for adopting the child and was insecured of her children's prosperity before that of the Singh family's children. Her character was played by Vishavpreet Kaur.

4. Rajeshwari Singh Rajawat aka Rani Sa in Apna Time Bhi Ayega

Owing to the fact that her son married their palace's maid, Rajeshwari leaves no chance to humiliate her daughter-in-law Rani in terms of the differences in their social statuses. Her role is played by Tannaz Irani.

5. Kalyani Devi Singh in Balika Vadhu

Actress Surekha Sikri enacted Kalyani Devi's role herein, who was an orthodox grandmother-in-law of the show's protagonist Anandi. Her obnoxious rituals and ideologies regarding a woman's freedom and activities makes her fit in this position well!

6. Bhavani Chandrakala Chavan in Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Mein

For the ongoing show Ghum...., actress Kishori Shahane is portraying the vamp mother-in-law's character herein, who's trying her best to defame her daughter-in-law Sayi, only because latter's investing her energy in exposing former's misdeeds till date.

7. Kokila Modi Shah in Saath Nibhana Saathiya

Known for her iconic bindis and bright sarees, Kokila loved her own daughter-in-law to the core but spitted hatred towards her nephew's wife, who also was her daughter-in-law's cousin sister and had made her life close to living hell. Later, ice does melt amid the two.

8. Mohini Basu in Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2

[[{"fid":"15666489","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false},"link_text":null,"type":"media","field_deltas":{"2":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false}},"attributes":{"height":498,"width":500,"class":"media-element file-default","data-delta":"2"}}]]

Shubhaavi Choksey played the role of this character, who was very concerned about her family's status in the society. Hence she could not digest the fact that her own son married a working-class family's daughter and wanted to replace her with a politician's daughter as her daughter-in-law at the earliest. When PLAN A didn't work out, she herself took charge of separating the show's lead couple - Prerna and Anurag.
