2013 has embraced us with open arms leaving behind with sweet memories from the last year. 2012 was replete with lot of twists and turns on Indian television which gifted us with a wide gamut of varied emotions. Some moments shocked us while others left us gripped in glee. Selecting the best TV moments was not at all an easy feat. But we scribes at Tellychakkar.com got our heads down and started working. So here’s going down memory lane and serving the best TV moments of 2012. Read on: Aamir Khan’s Satyamev Jayate: This is one reality show which impacted almost every television lover. Bringing into foray neglected but hard hitting and pivotal issues, Aamir Khan made an attempt to bring in a change in the society via Satyamev Jayate. Kudos to him!!! Imagine channel’s abrupt shutting down: A channel shutting down out of the blue is not at all a trivial development. Hence Imagine TV shutting down abruptly one fine morning definitely deserves a mention here. The channel’s sudden closure was one of the high points of 2012. Television without TRPs- Yes, can anyone, in his or her wildest dream ever imagined that TV industry can function without numbers? Well…that’s exactly what unfolded when TAM ratings got suspended for two months towards the end of the year pertaining to digitization. Simulcasting- 2012 saw channels coming together to simulcast shows. Yes, Satyamev Jayate aired on Star Plus and Doordarshan. Ramayan on Doordarshan and Zee TV. Rival GECs Sahara One and Colors also joined hands to simulcast SurKshetra. Mytho shows doing well- Well…there is one person who is single handedly responsible for giving mytho genre on Hindi television a much needed boost. He is none other than Mohit Raina who plays the role of Shiva in Life OK’s Mahadev. The show clicked amazingly with the masses creating better opportunities and launch of other mytho shows like Ramayan, Durga and others. Crime based shows ruled the roost- Apart from the mytho genre, crime based shows suddenly became TRP grossers. Be it Crime Patrol (Sony TV), Savdhaan India (Life OK), Shaitaan (Colors) or Gurmrah (Channel V)…each and every series was embraced whole heartedly by the masses. Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon’s sudden ending- Fans went frenzy when Barun Sobti decided to quit Star Plus’ super popular show Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. The channel and the makers tried really hard to save the show from going off air but without the hero…nothing made sense it seems. Hence, the soap went off air in a jiffy. Year of replacements- 2012 also saw TV leads being replaced every now and then. And guess what? Majority of the changes worked. While Sharad Kelkar came in as Dr Ashutosh in place of Mohnish Behl in Sony Entertainment Television’s Kuch Toh Log Kahenge, Devoleena Bhattacharjee replaced Giaa Maanek in Saath Nibhana Saathiya (Star Plus). But the biggest shock came when Shivaji Satam aka ACP Pradyuman of Sony TV’s long running show CID paved way for Deepak Shirke. Ram-Priya kissing scene in Bade Acche Lagte Hain- Whatever Ekta Kapoor (of Balaji Telefilms) does, she does it with style and it becomes a trendsetter. Yes, TV’s most loved jodi, Ram (Ram Kapoor) and Priya (Sakshi Tanwar) hugged, kissed, caressed and made love on screen…stunning some, bagging applauses from others. It was indeed a game changer moment for Indian television in 2012. Leap…leap…leap- Yes, many shows this year opted for sequential leap wherein the storyline jumped ahead by many years. Some of the shows which followed the ploy are Bade Acche Lagte Hain, Kya Hua Tera Vaada, Uttaran, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hain, amongst others. Not getting numbers…time to go off air- There was a time when daily soaps ran on TV for years and years. But 2012 saw a change in scheme of things wherein broadcasters did not bat an eyelid before pulling the plug on a show if it did not get the desired numbers. Shows went off air within two to three months of its launch date. Some of them were Kairi, Golmaal Hain Bhai Sab Golmaal Hain, Chhal - Sheh Aur Maat, Bhai Bhaiya aur Brother, Ruk Jaana Nahin, Dekha Ek Khwaab, Gutur Gu season 2, Sajda Tere Pyaar Mein Shubh Vivah, I Luv My India amongst others. Entertainment channels go off screen with Balasaheb’s death- Yes, we thought of including this in the list as we all remember that with the death of Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray, entertainment channels were kept off screen for two days in Maharashtra. Only news channels hit our bedrooms and living rooms. This is something which people will remember for years to come. This was our top TV moments of 2012. You agree with them or disagree whole heartedly…whatever be it…we would love to know about it…share your thoughts and views in the comment section below…
