Viraf Phiroz Patel has never taken any journalism course. In fact, 13 February 2013 (when he was the guest editor of Tellychakkar.com) was the very first day in his life that he was in the Editor’s chair. This intelligent hunky actor took his job very seriously. He impressed us with his diligence as a journo and his alacrity while framing questions for his dear friends Vivian Dsena (Colors’ Madhubala) and his wife Vahbbiz Dorabjee. Viraf added a good dose of humour while taking the interviews in a light, entertaining and conversational mode. He told Vivian right at the beginning of his telephonic interview, “You are on speaker phone. The girls of the office are quite excited that you are on the phone with us. In fact, they have surrounded me and hearing you talk with bated breath.” He then went on to ask Vivian three questions to ascertain as to how well he knows his wife. His first question was, “What is your wife’s favourite colour?” Vivian replied that it’s “pink”. He followed up that question with, “What is the first thing she does when she wakes up?” He replied, “She brushes her teeth and then helps herself to a hot cup of green tea.” Viraf’s final question to Vivian was on her favourite restaurant, to which he replied, “The Dhaba in Oshiwara, Mumbai.” In a smart twist, before talking to Vivian, Viraf had earlier asked Vahbbiz about her favourite colour, restaurant and what she does immediately after waking up in the morning. She had replied that her favourite colour’s red, her favourite restaurant’s Novotel Hotel and that she brushed her teeth right after waking up. Viraf informed Vivian, “We are glad to inform you that you got all three wrong! However we excuse you for that as both of you are newly married.” Vahbbiz corrected him with a laugh, “Actually one answer was correct. He did say that the first thing I do on getting up is brushing my teeth (he had added to that I also have green tea). Also my favourite colour is pink and not red. So he was right whereas I was wrong.” Viraf sweetly admonished her, “Very cute. Kya love story, tumne favourite colour change kar diya husband ke liye. Matlab biwi ho to aisi.” Viraf then asked the couple as to where they would spend their pending honeymoon. Vivian wished to keep that confidential. However he did mention that it would be a ten day affair. He then quizzed Vivian and Vahbbiz further on their married love. He asked Vivian, “How has the wedding affected your performance?” A puzzled Vivian wished to clarify, “What performance are you talking about?” Viraf replied with his broad dimpled smile, “We are obviously referring to your acting performance. How has the sanctity of married life improved your performance?” Vivian attributed his professional success to his wife and mother, “She and my mom have been my biggest critiques. They advise me on how to improve.” He also informed us that his wife is a great cook. Regarding that one thing that Vivian was yet to tell his wife post his marriage, he replied, “That I love her even more.” When Viraf asked Vivian to name one actress he liked, barring his co-star Drashti Dhami, he replied, “My wife.” Viraf replied in good humour, “That is too politically correct.” Viraf said Vivian’s mother-in-law is one of his favourite persons and asked the actor what he thought of her. Vivian answered, “She isn’t my mom-in-law but mom.” When asked how different Vivian was from R.K in Madhubala, the doting wife replied, “Completely different. RK is an arrogant person whereas my husband is not.” Vivian added that he “is 200.9% loving playing R.K as it’s a character of many shades.” Coming out of the realm of TV, Viraf asked the couple as to which film director they would like to work with. We learnt that Vivian would like to work with Farhan Akhtar whereas Vahbbiz would prefer Karan Johar. Thus Viraf concluded his interview which gave us a unique sneak peek into Vivian and Vahhbiz’s new married life and the close bond they share. The actor took more interviews of his friends which we will publish next week. So keep watching this space.
