The lines between TV and films have blurred, what with more and more Bollywood actors venturing into the small screen space.

Aisha movie fame Amrita Puri is all set to foray into TV again with Star Plus’ new series P.O.W- Bandi Yuddh Ke.

Helmed by popular filmmaker Nikhil Advani, the show is a desi spin on Prisoners of War.

Along with Amrita, the drama stars Sandhya Mridul, Purab Kohli and Satyadeep Mishra. It will take us through the lives of two missing soldiers and their journey after returning home 17 years later.

We had a candid chat with Amrita, who sounded really excited about P.O.W, and believes that viewers are ready to accept such content, a variant from the usual saas-bahu dramas.

While elaborating on that, she said, “I feel that we tend to underestimate our audiences when we say they only like typical shows. I think they are ready and we should give them a chance to try out different things rather than sticking to serving them the same stuff. Although, I don’t know how much they will connect with our show but I really hope that they like it. P.O.W is a show that not only has drama, but also emotions,” quipped the actress.

Talking about her character, Amrita said, “It’s a difficult role as Harleen has a lot of baggage. She has been waiting for her husband for 17 long years. She takes care of her husband’s family in his absence, ignoring her pain. I don’t think anyone can ever understand that emotion, as it is not a usual experience. The complexity of the character, her emotions... challenged me as an actress and I am glad it has come out well.”

When we asked her about working with Nikhil Advani, she said, “It was a fantastic experience. He is an extremely passionate filmmaker and as a director, he gives us a lot of liberty. He will give you a brief and ask to perform accordingly. Although, he will be ready with his inputs whenever needed, he gave all actors a chance to go deep into the character and perform their parts. That is a mark of a great director.”

Amrita mentioned that her stint on TV has been satisfying, however, she isn’t too keen on taking up more projects anytime soon.

“I will only take up a project, if it’s interesting. TV takes up a lot of time and you have no life. That bothers me,” she said.

With her playing the wife of an army man on the show, we asked her take on the entire controversy of Pakistan artists’ ban that has been making headlines.

“I think the entire thing has been blown out of proportion. The media has side-lined the soldiers who died in the Uri Attack. How does it matter what I or my fellow actors think about Pakistani actors and the ban upon them? We should rather help make a better future for soldiers’ family,” she pointed out.

Well said, Amrita. Good luck!

The series launches on November 7 at 10:30 pm.
