A page from the personal diary of Sucheta Trivedi We always are of the notion that metro cities are safer for women and that the crime against women is higher in small towns. Well, I was forced to change my view when I was almost assaulted by a man in the middle of one unfortunate night. Some two years ago my friends and I were at a restaurant for dinner. We were having a gala time but my moment of fun didn’t last too long. I had a dreadful experience the moment I stepped out of the restaurant to get into my car which was parked on the opposite side of the road. Just as I was crossing the road a maniac came and tried to snatch my purse. Initially I was taken aback but soon regained my composure. Though I panicked I didn’t lose the grip on my purse. He tried to assault me and grab my bag but I just wouldn’t let him it. He then brandished a gun but something inside me gave me the power to face him and I was just not in a mood to let go off my belongings. I was just too lucky as the police arrived on time and I managed to scrape through the ugly incident. The episode shook me completely but I pledged secretly that come what may I would never let such things scare me. I have now become extra careful when I am commuting alone during the wee hours. I just wish women of today don’t have to come across such incidents. But even if they run out of luck and land in such a situation, they should act strong and smart to handle the crisis. What we conveniently forget is that what goes around comes around. If you are suffering from poverty in life it’s because of your wrong-doings and by continuing in the same manner you will only stack up your wrong-doings which will ultimately result in more troubles. I just wish no more such incidents occur to anyone as one who leaves home leaves behind his entire family who awaits his return.
