Shalini Chandran who plays Surbhi in Rishton Se Badi Pratha was replaced just a few days ago without even a prior notice. The gossip mills suggested the hand of her co-actor Vishal Karwal in this whole drama but producer Pearl Grey rubbishes the rumours and throws light on the real reason behind this hurried development. "We wanted Shalini to put in more effort, work harder for the show as no one is bigger than the show for us. We did not want the show to suffer because of one person. As a creative team we went to the channel with two options for the well being of our show. The first option was that we get another female lead and let the story focus on her and the second one was to replace Shalini. We put across our idea where we could have a love triangle with the first option but the channel did not want to mess with the original story line. They did not get back to us immediately. Hence, the idea was from our side and not the channel, we were trying to find a solution for the problem." Pearl goes ahead to say that in spite of her repeated warnings Shalini did not mend her ways. She was letting her personal problems enter her professional life and it could be seen. "I had got to know that there was this romantic track that was coming up on the show and I wanted the chemistry to be there. But, Shalini told me that Vishal and she were not on talking terms and I explained it to her that a lot of shows have similar issues but that does not show on screen." When asked if this was because of Vishal and Shalini's alleged off-screen relationship that went kaput, she says, "As far as I know they were just friends-colleagues and it is their personal life and I am no one to comment on that." When asked if Vishal had problems shooting with Shalini she says, "Vishal never complained, he is the most non-troubling actor. He never said anything about Shalini." Why didn’t they give her a decent notice period? Says Pearl, "She was shooting everyday and I do not go on the sets everyday but I keep getting the news from the sets. My creative team was just not happy with her work and I won't let anyone spoil my show. Hence, we wanted to replace her as soon as possible so as soon as we got a replacement, Shalini was called to the office and informed about it. “In fact, I had insisted on having Shalini in the show as I had seen her work before but her unprofessional behaviour changed it all." On replacing her with Parul Chauhan, she says, "We needed someone as soon as possible. We did not have time to audition hence, we had to select from the actors available. We wanted someone who could perform well, someone who had done a show earlier and Parul was keen on doing the show.” Vishal rubbishes the gossip mill and says, "How stupid can people be! No actor is big enough to get an actor replaced. This is my second show with Colors and if I had done anything wrong the channel wouldn't have given me this show. I am always good to everyone and one article spoils it all." On his relationship with Shalini he says, "We used to spend a lot of time together but people one the sets are really narrow-minded, if they see someone together they feel there is something going which was not the case. Since my make-up room has a TV and laptop, Shalini liked spending time there. When there was a write-up about us having an affair I started concentrating more on my work and slowly the two of us stopped talking. So, people on the sets felt that since we are not talking it will show on screen. It's basically the mental thing because she always shot with me and did her work on time." Clarifying her stand Shalini says, "I am surprised that Pearl is saying that I am unprofessional. She has always been supportive of me. In fact I got Pratha because of her. All I can say is that I am a responsible person and would never behave irrationally. I have always discussed everything with her and even taken suggestions from her. I don't know how this story came out- guess just like Chinese whispers. I have worked on other shows too and nobody has ever called me unprofessional. It is sad to read such stories. All I can say is I have to move on and will therefore focus on all things positive."
