Swastik Pictures’ ambitious mythological saga Mahabharat for Star Plus is finally ready with their first pilot for the show with fresh faces and planning to present it to the channel next week. The show is expected to go on floors in September.
A source from the show says, “We shot our pilot out of Mumbai and when we had a screening of it, everyone liked it. By this month-end we will be showing it to the channel, and then they will review it and give us their feedback by mid-June. If they give us a go-ahead we will start hunting for an appropriate location. Most of the actors will be fresh faces in the actual show as well. Technically too it has come out really well and we are sure it is way better than any other mythological shows which have aired on Indian television. However even though our project will get a nod from the channel, it will take off only in September, as we won’t be shooting in the rains and construction of the sets too will take that much time.”
Initially Mahabharat was supposed to be made by Bobby Bedi and Chandraprakash Dwiwedi’s Kaleidoscope. They had shot a few episodes but then they were scrapped by the channel. Finally it reached the hands of Swastik a few months back. Actors like Kunal Verma and Harshad Chopra, Adita Wahi were approached to play pivotal characters in this mytho but they refused to do it.
Siddharth Tewary of Swastik Pictures remained unavailable for comment.
