MUMBAI: Amazon MX Player, Amazon’s free video-streaming service, recently released the much-awaited second season of its hit crime drama First Copy. Set against the gritty backdrop of early 2000s Mumbai, the new chapter delves deeper into the turbulent life of Arif — once the undisputed king of film piracy — now trapped in a web of betrayal, ambition, and survival. As his empire begins to fall apart and enemies close in, Arif, with Afreen by his side, fights back with the same street-smart grit that helped him rise to power. Yet beneath all the chaos lies a man torn between power and consequence, a conflict Munawar Faruqui portrays with striking intensity and emotional depth.
Reflecting on his journey with the show, Munawar revealed how his easy-going nature on set often surprised his co-stars once the camera started rolling. “From my co-stars to the directors, everyone was always surprised — and that’s a good thing,” he shared. “I was always joking around and having fun, but when it came to acting, they genuinely said I was doing a good job. At first, I thought they were just being polite, but they actually meant it. They didn’t expect me to perform like that, and their surprise made it even more special.”

For Munawar, Season 2’s early-2000s Mumbai setting felt like stepping back into a city he fondly remembers. He said, “If I could go back to that time, you’d probably find me near Marine Lines Railway Station, close to Nariman Point, by the old gola vendor outside. That’s where I first discovered malai gola topped with Milkmaid — which felt like pure luxury back then. It cost 25 rupees when the regular ones were just 5 or 10. Whenever it rained, my aunt and her kids would take me there. The sound of the rain, the colors of the gola, all of us laughing together — that was happiness in its simplest form.”
