MUMBAI : Science fiction as a genre is slowly gaining attention in Bollywood, and many sci-fi projects have been loved and appreciated by the Indian audiences. Now, a science fiction film titled Cargo has premiered on Netflix. It stars Vikrant Massey, Shweta Tripathi, and a few others and has been directed by Arati Kadav.
This nearly 2-hour fictional movie deals with the concept of healing the dead and sending them back to earth through reincarnation. This is called PDTS (post death transition service) and is conducted in a spaceship. Prahastha, played by Vikrant Massey, has been working in this company since a very long time and has no one with him in his spaceship. Later, he gets an assistant named Yuvishka, played by Shweta Tripathi. They have to carry out all the processes of PDTS. How this job and situation force them to change their perspective of life forms the rest of the film.
The screenplay is very badly handled and bores you on several occasions. Many scenes are repetitive and the movie has nothing new to offer. The direction is also lacking. However, the graphics and visuals of space have been captured and showed well. Overall, the premise is good but the execution lacks in many ways.
Performance wise, both the leads have done decent work, but we have seen Vikrant and Shweta doing a better job earlier, such as in Mirzapur. Other actors like Nandu Madhav and Armaan Mirza are strictly okay.

The positives are the unique concept of PDTS. The topic of life after death interests the audiences at many levels. Moreover, the chemistry between Vikrant and Shweta has been nicely captured and they both look good in the movie. The graphics are visually appealing.
On the other hand, the negatives are the bad execution. A nice plot is wasted because of poor execution. Talented actors like Vikrant and Shweta are also wasted. The repetitive scenes are boring, and the special appearances look forced.
It could have been a great film had a few portions been managed properly.
