Tell us about your character?
Rathod is an odd, foul-mouthed cop who doesn’t believe in second guessing. His values are grey, but he doesn’t mind that. The system has gotten the better of him, but he’s always one step ahead of it, sometimes playing by the book and sometimes tearing the book into pieces. Rathod is the culmination of everything that is raw and irreverent.
What was the most exciting part of playing this character?
For an actor, it is always exciting to portray multiple shades and essay layered emotions. All the more for me because this is the first time I played a tough-cop card with a character like 'chameleon', which also resonates with the nature and title of the show, 'Girgit'.
What made you say yes to the show?
The premise of the show is very intriguing. After reading the synopsis, I was curious to read more, which made me request for the script. The script turned out to be even juicier, and when I read about my character, it was indeed interesting and enticing. I couldn't be more convinced to say yes to the show.
In addition to that, it was a great opportunity to be a part of the Balaji family and to collaborate with the master storyteller Ekta Kapoor.
How was it shooting for the show? Your fondest memory from the sets?
I was really tempted and passionately drawn to be on the sets of Girgit in a picturesque Manali, nestling in the hills of Himachal Pradesh. Being an ensemble, I made the most of the opportunity by observing and learning from a talented lot of co-actors. One of the fondest memories from the show was day 1 of the shoot after the ease of regulations amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone came together as a team, and the fortune and gratitude everyone felt to be back on a set was visceral.
What are your expectations from the show?
We’ve given our hearts and souls to it, and I really hope it soars.
What is the one message you would like to share with your viewers and fans?
I would request them to give our show a shot because we really gave it our all. Also, I’d like to sign off by wishing them good health and happiness during these immensely testing times.
How did you prepare for the role?
I always come up with 3-4 adjectives that describe my character. If I have those adjectives or traits ready within me, then I just feed them more, and if I don't then, I work on those characteristics and emotions. I always believe acting is inside-out. So, first it’s the thought in mind, then emotion, and then the mannerism. Besides that, my father is a retired cop from Chandigarh. He had been a great support while I was attempting to understand each facet of my character and placing each block with precision as I went along.
