MUMBAI: SonyLIV‘s “Scam 1992” is receiving rave reviews from all nooks and corners and very rightly so. The series by national award-winning director Hansal Mehta is absolutely amazing and deserves every ounce of praise. And as we said in our binged review too that “Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story” is a captivating and thrilling account of India’s biggest earliest scam.
The acting is phenomenal, direction and writing is fabulous, narrative and screenplay is crisp and not to forget the background score is bang on addictive. Scam 1992 uses the series format to present the whole story behind one of the most controversial financial scam of the country and that makes it more so easy to understand as the audience is made comfortable with the terms and lingo of the stock market world without loosing any interest even for a little while.
So now that we have such an excellent version of Harshad Mehta and the whole scam of 1992, what will happen to Abhishek Bachchan’s upcoming film “The Big Bull” on Disney+Hotstar? “The Big Bull” is also based on the same financial scam that rocked the country in 1992 and this very fact can make things difficult for the makers as a comparison will be obvious.
Abhishek Bachchan will be seen in the role of Harshad Mehta in Disney+Hotstar’s “The Big Bull” which has been directed by Kookie Gulati and produced by Ajay Devgn, Anand Pandit, Vikrant Sharma and Kumar Mangat Pathak. The film’s release is not far away and that makes it more interesting as the time gap won’t be enough for the audience to get over the series version of the scam of 1992 on SonyLIV.

Moreover, “The Big Bull” is a film and that constraints the time limit and the amount of details that can be put out on screen in that limited period. As already mentioned the series format wins that hands down when something technical is transmitted form text to screen.
The acting, direction, narrative will all be compared and contrasted. While SonyLIV’s Scam 1992 had a clean slate it won’t be the same for Disney+Hotstar’s “The Big Bull”. Also, there has been a lot of nepotism debate doing rounds and we all know how hard it hit Sadak 2 that also released on Disney+Hotstar a little while ago.
The fear is such that Disney+Hotstar turned off the like and dislike buttons on YouTube for Akshay Kumar starrer Laxmmi Bomb trailer recently. Although we don’t have any release date as of yet for Abhishek Bachchan’s “The Big Bull” on Disney+Hotstar, it shouldn’t be very far. But do you think the makers will delay its release after such a terrific response to “Scam 1992” on SonyLIV, just in case?
