MUMBAI: Makeup can be a fun way to express yourself with colours and sparkle to jazz up a look. But sometimes, you just want to let your skin breathe and save yourself the trouble of taking it all off at the end of the day. So for those days when you want to look put together for work or college, here are some tips on looking well-groomed without having to apply makeup.
1. Take a shower
Even if you don’t want to wash your hair, just let the water hit your skin, smell the freshness of the soap, and awaken your senses. Just feeling the dust, sweat, and negativity of the previous day being washed off will make you feel rejuvenated.
2. Brush your hair and use a serum
Make sure your hair is detangled by brushing it patiently. Apply a smoothening, anti-frizz hair serum to tame flyaway.
3. Tie hair back into a neat ponytail or bun
As problematic as the current ‘clean girl’ trend is, just combing hair back into a neat ponytail or middle-parted bun makes life a lot easier. Your hair will be neat and off your face, and it’ll be trendy, too!
4. Exfoliate your skin
Remove those crusty and flaky patches from your skin by using a Glycolic acid toner or an AHA BHA peel the night before. This will make skin look smoother and shiner. But, don’t do this more than once a fortnight!
5. Use a cold roller or ice on the face
Cool jade rollers or even a massage with a cold spoon can reduce puffiness and redness. You can also massage your face with ice or splash some cold water on it to refresh your skin.

6. Moisture your face in layers
Follow the moisture sandwich method. Use a hydrating face mist, and apply a hyaluronic acid serum while skin is damp, and then apply your face lotion. You can also apply a face oil for added nourishment. This will make skin look dewy and glowy.
7. Curl your lashes
You don’t have to apply kajal or mascara. Just using a warm eyelash curler to curl your lashes will give them so much definition and lift.
8. Use refreshing eyedrops
If your eyes are red or tired from lack of sleep or too much screen exposure, use refreshing eyedrops to reduce the redness and calm your eyes. It’ll make your eyes look bright and fresh.
9. Wear earrings
A pair of basic pearl studs, golden hoops, or even silver jhumkas can make any makeup-free look seem so dressy.
10. Put on some perfume
While perfume doesn’t add anything to the way a person looks, it will make you feel fresh and put-together, giving you confidence and a mood-boost, thanks to the pleasant smell.
11. Don’t skip lip balm
Chapped lips can feel painful and scratchy when you press your lips together, and also make the entire face look dry. Use a shiny lip balm to revive them and soften the cracks.
12. Brush some Vaseline petroleum jelly through your brows and lashes
Not only does applying petroleum jelly help condition lash and brow hairs, but it helps neaten them and impart structure, giving them definition.
13. Keep your nails clipped and filed
Make sure you cut your nails and clean them while washing your hands. File the jagged edges so they are smooth. It’s a small thing but it makes a difference!
14. Use a cuticle oil and hand cream
Soften the flaky and rough edges of your nails with some cuticle oil to reduce the dryness there. Use a hand cream to keep your hands smooth and nourished, so that they look glowing and luminous.
