10 reasons why Singham is better than Singham Returns

Singham or Singham Returns
Sequels in Bollywood have rarely been able to better their prequels. Singham Returns which released yesterday may have opened to a great box-office response but critics have accorded it a lukewarm greeting. The movie when compared to Singham falls short in many departments. We take a look at the 10 shortcomings of Singham Returns as compared to Singham. All those who have watched Singham will readily agree that had it not been for Prakash Raj's menacing screen presence, the movie would have fallen flat on its face. Singham Returns sorely misses Prakash's class and Amole Gupte unsuccessfully tries to fill in his big boots. Ajay and Kajal Agarwal's fresh pairing was much appreciated by the audience. Kareena overacts throughout the movie and her chemistry with Ajay lacks sizzle. The songs especially the title number Singham were well received and popular. On the other hand, the music of Singham Returns is an extremely average fare and more or less depends on the original Singham soundtrack which is played every time Ajay prepares to walk in slow motion. Honey Singh too fails to create any magic. Actor Anant Jog effortlessly made us loathe him when he played the despicably corrupt politician in Singham. Zakir Hussain fails to covey the same sentiment in Singham Returns. The trademark dialogue 'Aata Majhi Satakli' is irritatingly repeated way too often. Singham Returns also fails to come up with any new dialogue baazi and depends heavily on Singham to for its punch lines. The fight scenes of Singham Returns are badly choreographed and the frequent shaking of the camera makes it for a jarring watch. The exploding airborne vehicles have become obsolete stunt sequences. Rohit needs to come up with something new. Singham didn't have a single big character actor. Singham Returns boasts of two - Anupam Kher and Mahesh Manjrekar - both of whom were thoroughly wasted. While the unification of the police force seemed spontaneous in Singham, Singham Returns sees police officers throwing away their shirts and walking on streets wearing their vests and pants in their endeavour to fight corruption unitedly. The ganji gang made for some comical viewing. Singham Returns ends up giving a supporting actress (Ashwini Kalsekar) good footage in crucial scenes whereas the lead heroine Kareena is reduced to being a mantel piece in the movie.
