Rani Mukerji is today the most powerful female actress in Bollywood courtesy her marriage to YRF chief Aditya Chopra. A performer, in her own right, Rani today is more focused on doing more meaningful cinema. As she turns 37 today, we take a look at her 10 best movies.
Black - The movie remains the finest performance of Rani's life till date. Rani played the role of a blind and mute girl with unbelievable ease. For the first time ever, Amitabh Bachchan was overshadowed by a female actor's stellar performance.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai - A romcom that saw a relatively young Rani romance King Khan SRK. The role was earlier offered to Twinkle Khanna who declined it and Karan Johar immediately signed on Rani and the rest as they say is history.
Ghulam - Though this one was an out and out Aamir Khan movie, Rani with her shrill voice made an impact. Her Aati Kya Khandala grabbed eyeballs.
No One Killed Jessica - This one had two powerhouse performers, Rani and Vidya Balan. We liked Rani for playing the no-nonsense journalist, the kind we all like.
Veer-Zaara- Most of Rani's best roles in the initial part of her career have been through supporting characters. Rani displayed her versatility once again by donning robes of Pakistani lawyer trying to save an Indian pilot.
Saathiya - Rani's innocence and middle-class vulnerability makes this movie a worthy watch. Her chemistry with the then hot Vivek Oberoi also became a talking point of the film.
Hum Tum - One of the few romcoms that stood out for its good story and quality acting. Rani's classy comic timing made this one a pleasurable experience. Ofcourse it's another story that Saif Ali Khan won a national award for Best actor.
Yuva - In this Mani Ratnam directed multistarrer, Rani ably supported Abhishek Bachchan as his dutiful wife on screen. Her performance earned her a Filmfare award for best supporting actress.
Laga Chunari Main Daag - This film was a commercial flop but then failures never mean actors like Rani act bad. Rani's performance as a high class escort Natasha made for a compelling watch.
Mardaani - Rani's spectacular comeback after marrying YRF boss Aditya Chopra was with the women-centric Mardaani. Playing a strict female cop, Rani showcases her flexible action moves in this child trafficking bust up drama.
