MUMBAI: Rajkumar Santoshi’s ambitious historical drama Lahore 1947, produced by Aamir Khan and based on Asghar Wajahat’s play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamyai Ni, has been facing repeated delays.

Aamir had previously planned to release it after Sitaare Zameen Par, but that schedule passed with no updates.

The latest buzz suggests the film may release with a changed title because a movie named after a major Pakistani city could spark controversy in the current political climate.

Speaking on the matter, Santoshi said reports claim the title change might happen, but it is ultimately the producer’s decision. He firmly stated, “I am not in favour of this kind of appeasement.”

Calling it his dream project, Santoshi revealed he waited almost two decades to make the film and believes Sunny Deol is perfect in the lead role, delivering a blend of classic and modern presence on screen.

He hopes Lahore 1947 stands alongside their previous hits Ghayal and Ghatak as a milestone in both their careers.

Santoshi also worked with Shabana Azmi for the first time and praised her powerhouse performance, calling her the emotional backbone of the film.

He added that audiences will be left teary-eyed and expressed excitement about collaborating with her again.
