MUMBAI: Aditya Sarpotdar, one of India’s most acclaimed film directors and producers, is celebrated for his dynamic storytelling, innovative approach, and ability to create commercially successful films with engaging narratives.
Known primarily for his work in Marathi cinema, Aditya has carved a unique niche, delivering hits like Mauli and Faster Fene, which have won both critical acclaim and audience admiration.
In recent years, he has expanded into Hindi cinema, making a strong debut with Munjya, a blockbuster hit, followed by Thamma, which also performed impressively at the box office.

When you were making Munjya, did you ever expect it would become such a huge success?
Honestly, we had no expectations. After the universe exploded with Stree 2, we wanted to create a movie that belonged to that world but didn’t focus on box office numbers. We never imagined Munjya would achieve such phenomenal success.
You started working on Thamma before Munjya released. Did you worry about how the audience would respond?
Yes, I was in the final schedule of Munjya when Amar pitched the idea for Thamma, a vampire story. We began working on it in 2024 without knowing the fate of Munjya. It was exciting to see audiences connect with the characters.
Do you think the release of Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat impacted Thamma’s box office?
I genuinely believe the release of another film did not impact Thamma’s collections. When Munjya released, even I was unsure how it would perform, as no one anticipated its massive success. Films that emerge unexpectedly often have a unique edge, and hats off to the entire team for creating a movie that rose from nowhere to take centre stage.
Especially during Diwali, when multiple films hit the theatres, audiences have the time to enjoy more than one release. While a random Friday might have led to competition, the festive weekend allowed viewers to watch both films and appreciate them fully.
Over the years, Aditya has built a reputation for blending contemporary themes with mass appeal. His visual storytelling, compelling screenplays, and innovative use of technology continue to set him apart in the competitive world of Indian cinema.
With a growing fan base and a series of successful projects, Aditya Sarpotdar remains one of the most exciting filmmakers shaping the future of Marathi and Hindi films.
