MUMBAI: Following the successful release of his debut film Saiyaara, newcomer Ahaan Panday has addressed the ongoing debate surrounding privilege in the Indian film industry, specifically pushing back against being branded a "star kid."
Ahaan, whose uncle is veteran actor Chunky Panday and cousin is actress Ananya Panday, argued that the commonly applied label does not accurately reflect his background or the effort behind his entry into the performance space.

Ahaan made a clear distinction regarding his family's lineage, pointing out that his immediate family is not rooted in acting. He stated, "I have never been in that space. My father, Chikki Panday, is a businessman; he is not a star. My father did not act in films, so technically, I would not call myself a star kid."
He acknowledged that having a famous uncle in the entertainment space may offer a slight advantage in terms of getting a foot in the door, but he maintained that the industry ultimately operates on talent and work ethic.
He explained that his journey was not one of pre-packaged convenience; rather, it involved the traditional routes of rigorous preparation and numerous auditions.
"I gave a screen test for the first time when I was 16. I was an introverted kid, but I wanted to make films," he recalled.
The young actor emphasised the importance of hard work in sustaining a career, regardless of one's background.
He stressed that success is dictated by merit and audience reception, not just one's last name.
"I feel like the privilege I get is to understand the work a little bit better, but after that, it is all up to your hard work. Once you are on the set, the tag doesn't really matter," he asserted.
Ahaan's debut in Saiyaara, directed by Mohit Suri, proved to be a major box office success, quickly establishing him as one of the most promising young faces in the cinema landscape.
His next confirmed project is an action thriller, showcasing his diverse acting range right at the start of his career.
