MUMBAI: The romantic drama Lamhe, a masterpiece directed by the legendary Yash Chopra, recently marked its 34th anniversary.
Veteran actor Anil Kapoor, who played the protagonist Kunwar Viren Pratap Singh, took to social media to celebrate the milestone and share his sentiments about the film’s enduring appeal.
The film, which featured the iconic Sridevi in a memorable dual role as both mother Pallavi and daughter Pooja, was critically noted for its bold and unconventional storyline, which many critics agree was significantly ahead of its time when it was released in 1991.

Despite its complex and boundary-pushing narrative, the film has since secured its place as one of the most beloved classics in Indian cinema.
Expressing his gratitude for the continuous adoration the film receives, Anil Kapoor wrote on his handle: "34 years of Lamhe and the love still keeps pouring in! Even Farah, usually my toughest critic, said some positive things about my work was quite surprised.. So many messages saying the film hasn't aged... that means everything."
He also shared several stills from the film, showcasing his contrasting looks as the young Viren and the older, more contemplative Kunwarji.
Beyond the compliments, the actor also offered an inside look at the personal commitment required to complete the picture.
Recalling a tumultuous period during the London shooting schedule, Kapoor revealed that he was forced to stall the production of his own film, Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, and cancel all corresponding dates in India.
This financial sacrifice was necessary when Sridevi's father passed away during the London shoot, leading to a halt in filming.
"I had to postpone that film's shooting, and cancelled all the dates. We lost a lot of money, and somewhere I feel I sacrificed that film to fulfil this commitment of mine," he explained, emphasising his loyalty to the visionary director.
The entire unit stayed in London for weeks without working, staying at friends' and relatives' homes to save costs until shooting could resume. This dedication is perhaps what gives the film its seamless, magical quality.
His heartfelt connection to the project remains palpable, confirming why he considers it one of his most important works.
