MUMBAI: With Atkan Chatkan, Pagglait, and Single Salma, actor Sachin Kavetham already has a number of hits to his credit. While he continues to master the craft with each project he takes on, he shared that a few emotions can sometimes be a little tricky for him.
He said, “Crying is a little difficult for me sometimes, especially if I don’t have enough context for the scene. I need to understand what the character is feeling and why; otherwise, it doesn’t come naturally. Comedy can be tricky too—not always, but sometimes if I’ve had a long day or taken on too much stress, hitting the timing and making it feel funny can be a bit challenging.”
And when the script demands an emotion that mirrors something from his real life, he makes sure that his portrayal is authentic on screen. He said, “I remind myself that this is a character I’m playing. Even if what the character is going through mirrors my own experiences, I can take inspiration from it, but I can’t let myself be completely overtaken by it. My responsibility is to perform it authentically so it feels real on screen, without letting my personal emotions interfere—otherwise, it becomes unprofessional.”
But instead of pausing during those moments, he tries to elevate his performance. He said, “I actually look forward to moments like that, when the emotions feel really real. Instead of pausing a scene or stepping out, I try to fully experience and relish them. There’s something about it—somewhere in my subconscious, I feel proud of myself for being able to connect so deeply with the emotion.”
“It’s a small, quiet satisfaction, but it makes me feel really good as an actor,” he added.
Sachin, who is still very young and has a long way to go, confessed that so far he has not faced a particular scene that has forced him to confront parts of himself he usually keeps hidden. However, he wishes to get a project in the future, which pushes him to do it. He said, “So far in my journey, I haven’t come across an emotional scene that’s made me confront a hidden part of myself. Maybe it’s because I’m naturally very expressive—whatever I feel, I tend to show, and I don’t really keep anything bottled up.”
“That said, I hope that someday, with the right project and more experience, I’ll get the chance to explore those deeper emotions and answer this question in the beautiful way it deserves,” he added.
He has understood the craft and shared that acting doesn’t have a fixed formula. He said, “That’s what makes it so fascinating. Every actor is different, and each person’s life experiences shape how they connect with a role. For some, drawing from personal emotions and memories helps them bring authenticity to a character. For others, they can step into a character entirely on imagination and observation, and it works just as well.”
“There’s no question of what one ‘should’ or ‘should not’ do—it’s all about finding what works for you. And this unpredictability is what keeps acting alive and exciting,” Sachin ended.
