MUMBAI: Deepika Padukone has once again become the centre of attention as she finally addressed her much-talked-about remark on the eight-hour work shift in the film industry.
A few months ago, the actress had made headlines for voicing her opinion on the need to reduce long working hours, particularly emphasising the importance of considerate schedules during motherhood.
Her statement sparked a wave of debate within the industry, dividing opinions among celebrities — with some backing her perspective and others expressing disagreement.

In a recent interview with CNBC TV18, Deepika broke her silence on the controversy surrounding her earlier comments. Clarifying her stance, she said, “By virtue of being a woman, if that’s coming across as pushy or whatever, then so be it. But it’s no secret that many male superstars in the Indian film industry have been working eight-hour shifts for years, and it’s never made headlines!”
Further elaborating, the Pathaan actress added, “I don’t want to take names and make this a bigger issue, but it’s widely known that several male actors have consistently worked only eight hours a day — many of them from Monday to Friday, taking weekends off.”
Deepika’s candid response has resonated with a large section of fans and industry insiders, many of whom have applauded her for speaking up about work-life balance and equality in showbiz.
With her bold clarification, the actress has not only put an end to ongoing speculation but also reignited an important conversation about fair working conditions in the entertainment world.
