Dhurandhar, the upcoming action thriller, faces controversy just ahead of its December 5 release, as the family of the late Major Mohit Sharma filed a plea in the Delhi High Court seeking a stay.
The family believes the Ranveer Singh starrer is based on the Major's life and was produced without their permission.
Madhur Sharma, the late officer’s brother, stated his position: "We just want the producers to clarify and tell us the reality," citing the rampant speculation by media and influencers linking the film to his brother's story.
In response, director Aditya Dhar issued a swift and official statement to quell the rumours, confirming: "Our film Dhurandhar is not based on the life of braveheart Major Mohit Sharma AC(P) SM.
This is an official clarification." Dhar further assured the family that any future biopic would be made "with full consent and in complete consultation with the family."
Directed by Dhar, the film features an intense cast, including Arjun Rampal as the notorious Major Iqbal (the 'Angel of Death'), R. Madhavan as the sharp spymaster Sanyal (inspired by Ajit Doval), Akshaye Khanna as Rehman Dakait, and Sanjay Dutt as SP Chaudhary Aslam, all of whom Ranveer Singh’s character is determined to hunt down.
