T-series head honcho Bhushan Kumar's wife, Divya Khosla Kumar's directorial debut Yaariyan has run into some inclement weather. Divya, yesterday told us that the censor board has rejected all the dialogue promos of Yaariyan and have asked her to submit new ones. Apparently the censor board found the dialogues bold though they didn't tell this to Divya in as many words. Divya who usually comes across as a soft spoken individual sounded a bit agitated with this decision of the censor board. "I really don't understand their mindset. They just rejected all my dialogue promos without giving a good reason. According to them, any movie on adolescents is a censored subject,” Divya shared with Tellychakkar.com.
Yaariyan which is essentially a college caper, also promises to bring to fore the true feelings and emotions experienced by the college going youth. When asked if she considered her film bold, Divya said, “Every guy and girl discusses about their feelings and emotions in college. It was true during my times and today it has only grown. The hormonal locha of boys and feelings of girls are very real. It's not cheap in any way. It’s a good film."
As a director, Divya also feels that a film should be passed without any cuts. “The censor board should certify the film according to its subject but pass it without any cuts.”
Just recently, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Ram Leela was granted a U/A certificate despite being a bold subject. When asked about it Divya said, “I haven't seen the movie but I have heard that it contains a lot of bold scenes. So if it was given a U/A certification, so should be Yaariyan.”
As for now, Divya has submitted a new reworked dialogue promos to the censor board. Let's wait and see what yardstick the holier than thou censor board uses to certify Yaariyan.
