MUMBAI: Renowned Bollywood singer Divya Kumar, known for his soulful and energetic hits like Sun Saathiya, Vande Mataram, Shubh Aarambh, Jee Karda and many more, is all set to win hearts once again with his new music video “Piya Ji.” The song is composed by the talented Yash Pathak, who has previously worked with legends like A. R. Rahman and Sachin–Jigar, and features the real-life couple Ssanjay Gaggnani and Poonam Ppreet.
What makes Piya Ji truly special is that the video uses the couple’s original wedding footage, giving the song an authentic emotional essence. With its genuine portrayal of love and marriage, Piya Ji promises to be more than just a song it’s an emotion captured in melody.
Talking about his experience, Divya Kumar shares his thoughts on the song and what makes it stand out.
When asked if performing a song that celebrates real love and weddings felt different from his usual tracks, Divya says, "Performing Piya Ji definitely felt different because it carries a purity and warmth that instantly connects you to the feeling of true love the kind that’s celebrated in real weddings, not just films. As a singer, it was refreshing to perform something so rooted in emotion and sincerity. The simplicity of its melody and lyrics makes it feel very real and heartfelt."
Speaking about how Piya Ji differs from his earlier hits like Shubh Aarambh and Jee Karda, he shares, "Piya Ji is different because it’s more intimate and organic. It doesn’t rely on big orchestration or commercial hooks it’s all about emotions and subtlety. Most of my earlier hits were energetic or celebratory, but this one captures the quieter, more soulful side of love. It’s the kind of song you truly feel while singing."
On how singing for a music video with real emotions differs from playback singing in films, Divya explains, "Singing for Piya Ji was different because instead of matching someone else’s on-screen expression, it was about internalizing the emotion myself imagining the story, the love, the nostalgia and letting that guide my voice. It felt more personal and emotionally connected."
When asked which Bollywood on-screen pair’s chemistry would best match the vibe of Piya Ji, Divya reveals, "Piya Ji would perfectly suit Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. They have this effortless chemistry that beautifully balances romance and depth. The song has that same emotional, nostalgic, and timeless vibe."
Adding to that, music composer Yash Pathak, who has created the soulful composition, shares how Divya Kumar came on board for Piya Ji, "We were discussing potential singers for Piya Ji when my dear friend Romil Ved, an integral part of YP Music, suggested Divya Kumar. The moment his name came up, we all felt he was the perfect choice. Divya Kumar has an incredible ability to bring both depth and warmth into a melody, and that emotional honesty was exactly what Piya Ji needed."
With Piya Ji, Divya Kumar once again proves why he is one of the most versatile voices in the Indian music industry blending emotion, simplicity, and soul into every note.
