The announcement puts to rest previous speculation regarding potential delays and officially kicks off the countdown for one of the most anticipated films in modern Indian cinema.

Ranveer Singh was revealed as the new lead in a major announcement video last year, taking over the titular role previously essayed by Shah Rukh Khan for two successful instalments.

Akhtar expressed excitement about commencing production, stating that the project requires extensive pre-production given its massive scope and action sequences.

He confirmed the target date clearly, asserting, "Ranveer Singh will begin shooting for Don 3 in 2026."

He elaborated that the script has been finalised and the team is currently working on casting the female lead and other pivotal characters before moving into the extensive production design phase.

The transition to a new actor for such an established franchise has generated significant buzz, with many fans eager to see Ranveer Singh's energetic take on the suave criminal character.

Akhtar mentioned that the story will introduce a completely new dimension to the character, promising a modern and fresh interpretation that respects the legacy while forging a new path.

The director emphasised the commitment to delivering a high-octane cinematic experience.

He stated, "We are taking our time because we want to ensure we deliver an action film that lives up to the expectations of the franchise's fans."

The movie is set to be released under the banner of Excel Entertainment, which has produced all previous films in the series.

The announcement of the 2026 shoot officially sets the stage for the return of the stylish crime thriller to the big screen.
