MUMBAI: Filmmaker and actor Farhan Akhtar recently opened up about his enduring professional and personal bond with superstar Shah Rukh Khan, detailing the evolution of their relationship and sharing a memorable, humorous incident that took place while shooting their blockbuster film, Don.
Speaking during a chat series, Farhan discussed how his connection with the star began in the early 2000s.

While Shah Rukh Khan had previously known Farhan as the son of writer Honey Irani, their professional interaction truly began after the release of Farhan’s debut film, Dil Chahta Hai.
"Shah Rukh Khan and I spent a lot of time after Dil Chahta Hai," Farhan recounted, noting that their initial professional meeting happened when the superstar watched the film at Famous Studios.
Their friendship solidified further during the extensive preparation for Farhan’s second film, Lakshya, much of which took place in Delhi.
"When I was in the thick of prep for Lakshya, we met more often, as Gauri's family was from there, and Shah Rukh was also there numerous times," he shared.
A coincidence involving a restaurant owned by one of Shah Rukh’s childhood friends, which was used for a scene in Lakshya, helped deepen their rapport.
Farhan recalled, "He asked me to stay back and chill around till Shah Rukh came. That is how we started hanging out."
This close friendship eventually led to their iconic professional collaboration on Don.
Farhan, who felt a strong creative connection with the star, stated, "There is something very magnetic and charming about him."
However, one particular memory from the Don shoot in Paris stands out as the most amusing.
Struggling with a severe neck ache due to the harsh weather, Farhan received an unexpected gesture of kindness from Shah Rukh Khan.
"Shah Rukh asked me about my ache, and he massaged my neck. Then he gave me a pill to ease the pain," Farhan said.
The next morning, the supposed cure had a funny side effect. Farhan revealed the outcome: "The next day, my neck was completely jammed… so he is great at a lot of things, but not massages."
This light-hearted memory remains a testament to the easy camaraderie between the director and the star.
