Parno Mittra, known for Bengali flicks like Ranjana Ami Aar Ashbona, Ami Aar Amar Girlfriends and Apur Panchali, says that like earlier days, opinion based Bengali films are not made much.

“The films which we used to watch during our childhood days were mostly rich in content and opinion or views based. But such films are somewhere missing now a days,” Parno said to Tellychakkar.com.

She added, “Such films have died down and are not made anymore because probably audiences do not like them anymore. They want fun.”

The actress was recently seen in the social thriller Shaheb Bibi Golaam. The film had faced its share of opposition from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). It was asked to reduce the sexual scenes, lessen the rape seen and cut Swastika Mukherjee’s role.

Commenting on it she opined, “We were asked to omit Swastika's role, lessen the rape seen from Shaheb Bibi Golaam. Why? You give us a rape free country, we will give you a reality free movie. If you cannot censor rape from reality then how can we censor reality from our films because our films are based on reality.”

“Actually you know what our problem is…probably we do not want to face the reality. That is a major problem. Films are the reflection of reality,” she added.

When quizzed if Bengali audiences are still not that bold enough to accept bold films, she quipped, “I don’t think it’s only about Bengali; it’s an audience's problem in general.”

“Bold does not mean wearing less cloths; bold can also mean being bold in terms of content. We made a film like Asukh, which was bold in content,” she signed off.

Strong opinion, girl!
