Gorgeous actress Mimi Chakraborty, known for Bengali flicks like Bojhena Shey Bojhena, Golpo Holeo Shotti, Gangster and Posto, is set to play the role of an advocate in Arindam Sil’s upcoming film Dhananjoy, which is based on ‘The conviction of Dhananjoy Chatterjee’.
The SVF Entertainment production has cast Mimi in a never seen before look and the actress is quite pumped up about her role.
She is essaying Kavya Sinha, a fictitious character, who fights for Dhananjoy.
However, the actress was initially not convinced about her role. Read on to know why-
She said, “It was my wish to work with Arindam da. And finally, the day came but when I heard about my role I wasn’t convinced because when the incident happened I was quite young. I was probably in class VIII or IX. Hence, I had told Arindam da that I don’t think I will be able to do justice to Kavya Sinha.”
She continued, “But he gave me a book and said this is a research work; I know it’s not possible for you to read the entire book but please go through a bit of it and then let me know. I remember, after one or two weeks when I was attending my workshop, we were both crying.”
And what was her other reason for not wanting to play the role? “I was young but of course I remember the case. And being a feminist, I was completely against the case (Dhananjoy). I told him (Arindam) that I cannot do a film where I will have to fight FOR Dhananjoy. However, after going though the research work, my perception changed and I felt that probably if somebody was there in the court, fighting for him, the person might have been alive today,” she said.
The talented actress has romanced under the open blue sky and danced around trees for commercial films and at the same time played lead roles in serious films like Proloy and Posto where she had essayed important roles driving the plot on her shoulder. So which of the types is tougher to portray, we quizzed.
She answered, “Both are tough. While in commercial films we are physically drained, in offbeat or parallel films we are drained emotionally. In commercial films, one has to run, fall down, dance and shoot in hot desserts and serene forests. A lot of physical hardships are involved. And when you play a character like Kavya Sinha, you are completely drained emotionally.”
Good luck for the film, Mimi!
Dhananjoy will release on 11th August.
